After the war, Keller became a merchant and political figure in Austin, Texas. He died in 1984 at the age of 96. Keller was born on December 12, 1813, in what is now Wichita County, Kansas Territory (now Kansas City), to George F. and Marilla A. Keller. The Kellers were farmers of German descent who moved from Ohio to Wichita County when GeorgeF. Keller was five years old. GeorgeF.'s father had been a captain in the United States Army and fought under Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House in 1865; GeorgeF.'s mother had been born into slavery near Cincinnati, Ohio). At age 11GeorgeF., his brother John C., and their father left home for Texas (then part of Mexico) with eighteen bullocks for passage across the Rio Grande on horseback and two days journey by way of Arkansas arrived in San Antonio on September 5, 1837; they were not welcomed by their family but managed to find work odd jobs until 1840 when they established themselves among local citizens as merchants (JohnC.'s job was working for JH Baker & Co.). One reason that this escape may have been more difficult than it sounds is that JohnC.'S wife Manie had died shortly before they reached America leaving him with three small children--one aged four months when they set out). They first settled down on Green Street between Jefferson and Lamar Streets (now Elmira/Albany Streets) which led them into financial ruin because only imported goods could be sold through such an address (). They had two children: Francis Etta (#born1854 #died1943) who married John Hutton (); Arlene Jane (#born1857 #died1976)) who married Edwin Ladd () ; Annie Mae (#born 1860 #died1945)). In 1861 Amasa Matthews gave birth to son James Gentry (), also called James Gentry II or Jimmie Gentry (), after his parents' former slaveholder friend James Goodloe (). When Amosasaxander's health began decline he transferred ownership of East Austin () back to amasa matthews & son james gentry II In 1870 Arlene Jane gave birth to her second child: Hulda Maynard (/ˈhʌlədən/ or /ˈhʌlædt/, March 21[15?]) who married Dolphus Earle Mayo () On October 16th 1907 she gave birth again: Lloyd Maynard (/ˈlɔlipt/, October 16[7] 1907).[note 1][1][4][5] Lloyd Maynard never did marry]. AmasaMatthewss passed away on October 24th 1901 after a long illness at her home east austin.[note 2][6] Her husband Dolphus Earle Mayo still lives today living on his estate east austin near LloydMaynard
