Katy, Texas is a city in West Texas that was founded by the Houston-based Katy Oil Company in 1907. The population of the city was 1,459 as of 2010. It is located in the Uptown and Midtown districts of downtown Austin, on the banks of the Colorado River. Katy recovered somewhat during the late 1960s and early 1970s when a new wave of young people moved into town after coming home from college or working in nearby suburbs; however, larger-scale redevelopment projects never materialized until recently.
