This initiative known as Gun SenseHouston also increased public awareness of firearm safety issues and led to more people carrying firearms openly throughout their communities statewide. In 1984, then-Mayor Tom Leach made headlines when he announced that all handgun sales would be banned within city limits starting January 1st of that year (though this measure did not pass). With no other means of purchase available aside from City-issued licenses or registration with local sheriff's departments (which were already highly restrictive), many citizens took to the streets armoring themselves against potential law enforcement raids or gunfirefights that could erupt any time between 6am and midnight without warning orwarning either party involved outside what had become known as 'the Gun Zone.'

Katy, Texas is a small city in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 797 as of the 2010 census and 805 as of the 2019 estimate. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The city was named after Katy, an early settler in what is now Houston County, Texas. In 1836, General Sam Houston decided to move his military garrison from San Antonio to new grounds beyond the Alamo in order to better protectHouston County from Mexican incursions during the Texan Revolution. The new fortification became known as Fort Bend County and it remained so until 1849 when it was transferred back to San Antonio under US Army command due to Mexican raids in that area. In 1840, Mission Santa Anna was founded just outside present-day Katy with intentions of converting Native Americans living along the Trinity River into Christianity by teaching them English and then baptizing them with water baptism which would free them from their traditional hunting and gathering ways. However, Santa Anna's forces sackedmission on July 30th, 1840 while its occupants were sleeping; this event is commemorated by a monument at nearby Point Rice Park commemorate'ing Santa Anna's attempt to conquer east-central Mexico'. In 1845, land within today's Katy began being surveyed for what would become Fort Bend County; surveyors found good sites for plantations near Sam Houston Toll Road (later I-10). A town site could be established only if two roads crossed each other: one went through downtown Austin and ran eastward towards Pasadena (now Pasadena), while another ran northwest from downtown through Humble and eventually reached Astrodome Airport today (I-610/US 287). The road connecting these two towns became known as Market Street or Main Street because much later it served as the primary artery linking these communities together. On March 2nd, 1846 (the date market street first opened), President James Kenedy issued a proclamation designating "Katy" as one of five counties within Texas newly organized via Act 1 of 1846 – this act allowed for eastern Texans who had been registered with East Texas Colony in Huntsville or Galveston to transfer their registration there rather than gowestwards into Cook County where they would have faced discrimination on account of their slaveholding activities – specifically mentioning "Katy" county among those located therein. Katy, Texas is a small town in central Texas that was founded in 1873. It is the oldest continuously populated municipality in Harris County. The population of Katy was 147 as of the 2010 census. The first settler in what would become Katy was James Hargrave, who built a cabin on the edge of a hill near present-day Lamar Boulevard and Railway Avenue. The first post office was established in 1876 and named after George Washington Carver, who donated land to the town for a school and park. In 1883, local farmers started to grow cotton into bales that were then shipped east for export. As demand for cotton grew, more people began to move to the area and developers started buying up tracts of land around Katy. In 1924, municipal trustees voted to change the name from Katy to Katy·Hargrave because it became more accurately reflect community growth within their boundaries. In 1907, Cattlemen's Protective Association members built a stockade around present day I-10 just south ofpresent-day Memorial Drive so cattle could be driven north for market without having their horns cut off by desperadoes or thieves trying to take them away. This fence still stands today as part of downtown's history! A subdivision called Garland Heights was developed adjacent to I-10 between 1921 and 1925; this development is now known as Northpark Mall. In 1928, Houston millionaire Drayton Wylie purchased 7 miles (11 km) of railroad track west of present day I-10 from Central Texas Railroad Company and incorporated the San Antonio Independent Electric Railway Company (SAIE). The company built an electric line from San Antonio through Garland Heights across I-10 at future Union Station before terminating at Mission Road northeast of downtown San Antonio proper. Wylie also bought acreage along Interstate 10 east of South Park Road for use as his personal vineyard before dying in 1943 unmarried at age 84 years old! From here on out until 2010 when annexation into neighboring Montgomery County resulted in Kexue becoming unincorporated again - KEXUE continued being one continuous municipality with its own government until annexation! In 1982, firefighters responded to an oil spill on Cypress Creek which contaminated much surrounding soil with benzene levels reaching up to 5 parts per million (ppm). A $2 million cleanup effort ensued which included removing over 100 trees and filling 6 football fields with heavy black sandbags after 4 days of weather conditions that left many homes without power and roads impassable due to slick mud caused by rain runoff from nearby hillsides

It is the third largest city in Texas and has served as its capital since 1836. Katy’s origins can be traced back to 1836 when General Sam Houston built his first fort here. He named it Fort Bend County after his home county of England, whence many immigrants came to America during that time. In 1845, Mayor James Hogg founded the City of Katy and it became an incorporated town on January 1st of that year. The original plat for what would become Katy was filed by JHogg with Waco plat number 2272 on November 9th, 1845. In 1865, Major General John Buford took control of East Texas from Mexican forces under Santa Anna and founded Midland Park east of downtown and named it for himself – Buford Heights (now Midtown). On December 8th, 1865, President Johnson issued a proclamation creating Brazoria County from parts of Harrisburg and Lubbock Counties adjoining San Antonio including present-day Katy Bayou;Midland Park would become its seat. By 1870, all except Midland Park had been annexed by the new city limits established by Mayor Huckaby.. On October 10th 1861 Governor James Kenedy signed an act providing for a municipal government for Houston with a mayor and 24-hour police force; this act gave rise to local nickname “The Big O’Houston” because Of how much power local officials had over business within the new municipality. In 1865–1866 Officer Tom Slaughter refused orders to fire upon Rebel sympathizers who were assembled outside his precinct house while he waited for dinner; Slaughter was arrested and charged withRender Aid To Rebels but ultimately acquitted due to lack evidence.. In 1886 incorporation occurred for what would become West Houston which later becamenutrientshipping center called Third Ward until annexation into Houston in 1907 followed by reincorporation as Tyler when Third Ward merged with other northwestern suburbs into that city
