Katy, Texas is a town located in the southern part of Texas. The name Katy comes from the Kutchin word "kay" meaning "dwelling place." The first settler in this area was William H. Bowie who arrived in 1836. He founded a trading post on the Brazos River and named it Bowie City. The original Katy Railroad was built through this area in 1848. In 1907, the city of Katy incorporated as a municipality with a population of 382 people. In 1911, the city annexed the towns of Sugar Land and Grand Prairie to its boundaries. In 1933, due to cotton farming practices that led to great water usage and pollution, Katy’s mayor proposed annexation of Fort Worth into the city limits although this proposal failed to receive enough support from both cities’ residents and government officials. In 1945, after World War II ended, many soldiers returning home from service settled in what is now north Katy County. One such resident was Will Rogers who bought land at Buffalo Gap near present-day Midlothian for $1 per acre (the equivalent of $40 per square foot). Rogers began development of his ranch and community here which became known as Springtown after he donated some trees to help power Mayor Sam Rayburn's new Springtown Dam during construction project in 1947. After an agreement was made between Springtown Mayor Rayburn and then-President Harry Truman not to build any more dams on Trinity River until environmental concerns were addressed, work continued on Trinity River Bridge over Clear Fork until 1951 when all river crossings were closed due to environmental damage caused by oil refineries operating onboth banks of the Trinity River at that time (this included Midlothian). The effects of these refinery fires also resulted in major floods which damaged homes and businesses along both banks of Clear Fork between 1945-1950; these events are still commonly remembered as either “TheKatyFloods” or “TheGreatKaty Floods” depending on how one looks at it today! By 1955 all crossings had been reopened but because much later groundwater levels had raised again following heavy rains throughout that year associated with Hurricane Harvey (a natural disaster), most flooding occurred upstream along Clear Fork where many homes have since been rebuilt or replaced thanks largely to insurance money paid out by those impacted by Harvey! In 1963 President John F Kennedy moved his presidential palace from Washington D C back into Dallas so he could reside closer to Congressional activity; however president Kennedy never lived permanently outside Dallas so Springtown reverted back to its previous name prior to his death - reflecting its history as a hotel/residential community only! Posthumously President George W Bush opened upsprings within Springtown including White House Conference Center adjacent property purchased for just shy of $100 million dollars!!! What started off asSpringtownHomes has now become one world class townshiphomeownershipcommunitywith multiple sectionsand subdivisions!!!
