With MCC completed in 1915, downtownKaty rapidly gained stature as a popular tourist destination which remains today one of TX's most vibrant neighborhoods despite some challenges such as high crime rates which have been partially addressed through initiatives like district policing efforts launched during Mayor Annise Parker's term (2012-2016). It should be noted that much progress has also been made regarding infrastructure development including new schools (including Harvey Mudd High School), healthcare facilities (including Baylor University Medical Center) and apartment complexes (such as Regency Tower) since Mayor Parker took office in 2012; these developments are expected to result in increased retail commerce within DowntownKaty while also creating thousands of jobs across various industries throughout the area
In 1846, Katy was the county seat of Bexar County, Texas. The area that is now Katy was first settled by farmers in the 1830s. In 1836, the Republic of Texas seceded from Mexico and became an independent country. The Mexican government decided to move the county seat from San Antonio to Austin because they thought it would be less likely to be attacked by Native Americans. However, this decision backfired as hostile Apache Indians raided the town numerous times and it soon became a ghost town. In 1847, Bexar County was created out of parts of Travis and Harris counties and the new county seat moved to Katy.
