The Jacksonville rifle scope company was founded in 1912 by J.E. Myers and H.C. Goodrich, two of the most successful rifle scopes manufacturers in America at that time. The company quickly became known for its high-quality riflescope products, which were distributed throughout the United States and Europe. In 1917, Myers and Goodrich merged with another rifleScope manufacturer, Bendix Inc., to form Bendix-Goodrich Corporation (BGC). Some of their most famous products include the world’s first “tanged” reticle system and the earliest reflex sights ever made for firearms. In 1951, BGC merged with Leupold & Peacock Company to form Leupold & Peacock Incorporated (L&P). Jacksonville, Texas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the seat of Jefferson County. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The name Jacksonville was given to it by Captain James Cook in 1794 while on his way from French Louisiana to Spanish Texas during the first American Revolution. A post office called Jacksonville was established in 1821, and remained in operation until 1907. In 1839, he married Maria Lina Victoria de la Garza y Cavaco who bore him five children: Sam Houston (1840–1935), William Lloyd Garrison (1844–1920), Julia Austin Foster (1846–1925), Franklin D. Roosevelt (1914–1945) and Eleanor Roosevelt (1928–1945). On February 3, 1840 President James Kenedy appointed Hidalgo Deputy Sheriff for Galveston County; he served until his death on December 4 that year at age 61 years old due to complications from diabetes mellitus caused by anorexia nervosa contracted while serving as Deputy Sheriff of Galveston County...Hidalgo's purchase included 6 square miles (15 km²) outlying to what is now downtown Jacksonville proper including about acreage eastward into Spanishtown Creek which lay within present day Arlington Cemetery...Houston Heights never developed into a significant commercial or residential center because there were no railroads within reach and also insufficient water resources." Houston Heights grew rapidly around its new flour mill but eventually failed due to competition from other mills away from Jacksonville's limited water resources and population growth in nearby Dallas-Fort Worth combined with increasing timber prices resulting from increased energy production brought about by Comanche Chief Quanah Parker's Raids into Mexico during 1900-01 through 1903...In 1905 when Brazoria County was organized under law following Texas annexation it became part of Jacksonville so much so that Brazoria City annexed all of Jacksonville except for portions lying inside its limits west of I-10."
