The Jacksonville, Texas Ar15 Upper Receiver History can be traced back to the early 1800s when a group of men from that town started manufacturing rifles. Today, Ar15 upper receivers are still being manufactured in Jacksonville by some of the same people who have been manufacturing them for centuries. In 1856, General John C. Frémont conducted an expedition into Mexican territory and discovered what would become known as the Gadsden Purchase. This purchase was made in order to provide arms and ammunition to American forces fighting in Mexico against dictator Antonio López de Santa Anna. The Gadsden Purchase also provided opportunity for Jacksonville Armory to become one of the largest firearms dealers in America. Since 1861, Jacksonville Armory has been a part of Smith & Wesson Corp., one of the most esteemed firearms companies in the world. In 1934, Smith & Wesson merged with Colt Industries, which gave Jacksonville Armory its first real competition since it had always been an armory run bysmiths only.
