Irving, Texas is home to the biggest gun light show in the United States. The event is known as the Irving Gun Light Show and it takes place annually at the Jack Brown Amphitheater. The event features more than 30 differentgunlight shows and 1,000 exhibitors from around the world. The firstGun Light Show took place in 1907 and was sponsored by the Mayor of Irving, George H.W. Bushnell. It was held at a local fairgrounds and attracted an audience of about 25 people. In 1909, the first Gun Light Show organized by individuals occurred in Dallas, Texas and was attended by 300 people. From then on, these events would typically be held in larger cities across North America. In 1951, The Umpqua County Commissioners voted to make Irving his own county and started hosting its own Gun Light Shows! These shows became increasingly popular over time and have since been considered one of Americas most prestigious events! In 2002, attendance topped 3 million spectators for the first time! It is bisected by I-35W and its namesake (and only) street, Irving Boulevard. The two halves of the town are separated by busy Pecan Road. The city of Irving was founded in 1892 as a small farming community on the east side of present day Irving Boulevard between Crenshaw Boulevard and Elm Street. In 1924, the City Council voted to rename itself after James A. Robertson, Sr., one of Dallas's early settlers and an important official in developing the city. By 1960, however, both parts of the city had been renamed for other people or places: Irving for James A. Robertson Jr., businessman; and Arlington Heights for Harry Crane Garrard (presidential candidate), developer and philanthropist who had helped found Arlington Heights Hospital in 1922. IRVING'S HISTORY – The first settlement in what became Irving happened when three men drove their wagonloads of goods down Trinity Avenue from Fort Worth to find land that would be suitable for farming (the area now includes much of what is nowDallas). On July 9th 1892 they named their new village "Moses", after Isaac Moses which means "site settled". The original nucleus of this community were farmers who came down Trinity avenue from Fort Worth because there was no other road available to them at that time. They got help from some friends who donated tools and seed so they could grow crops such as cotton and corn etc.. over time more people started moving into this small community including businessmen such as JAMES ROBERTSON JR who did some building projects including creating a store on Elm Street which still stands today calledRobertson's Incorporated Company Store which opened on November 12th 1889 . This company store continued until it closed in 1963 due to lack of customers but it served as a reminder that back then businesses were not just created outofthinsomeone's house but were built with help from others
