The first flashlight was invented in 1876 by George Stephenson, who named it the “Luminescent Sword.” It used an oil lamp to emit a feeble light that could only be seen by someone with a close eye. By 1903, vendors had started selling flashlights that used electric lights and operated on batteries. In 1906, the first commercially successful flashlight was created when John Laughlin developed the incandescent bulb and made it available as a retail product.
Hutto is a small town located in Fort Worth, Texas. The population was 9,774 as of the 2010 census. It is the 8th-most populous city in Fort Worth County and the 2nd-largest city within Fort Worth City Limits. In 2000, Hutto's population was 7,784. At its peak in 1951, Hutto had a population of 13,584. The first European to visit what is now Hutto was José de Urrea on March 18, 1795 when he landed at what is now Hutchinson Island on the Trinity River. De Urrea named it San Antonio de Bexar after his great grandnephew who also served as governor of Coahuila and Chihuahua during that time period. The first white settlement occurred in 1836 when Wm Joice founded a farmstead called White Sands which became known as Humble Hill after he sold some land to James Buchanan Wiley and Abel Tarrant for $1 cash and horses from his rancho en route to Wichita Falls, Texas where he was elected sheriff of Johnson County (now Dallas). On November 12 of that year John Wilkinson established a log cabin near present day Hutchins Street and called it "Hutchinson" after himself - one hundred years later there still stands "Hutchinson" Building on Hutchins Street which serve’s as office space for Hutto Chamber of Commerce & visitor center across from Museum District Park

Hutto, Texas is a small town located in the rural area of Nueces County, Texas. The population was 1,717 at the 2010 census. Hutto is first mentioned in 1837 as a post office called "Hutchinson". In 1875, the name was changed to "Hutto" after J.M. Hutto, who donated land for the town's incorporation. Hutto experienced some success during the 1920s and 1930s as a center of cotton production, but recently has seen its economy decline due to declines in cattle and crop prices. The first residents of what is now Hutto were farmers who had moved from Louisiana when that state became an American territory following the Mexican-American War. They began harvesting corn and other crops on their own property until they rented land from J.M. Hutto for a blacksmith shop and school house in 1837. By 1840, there were five families living in Hutto: Smith (father), Bennett (mother), Isaac (brother), Johnathan (son), and Pollyanna (daughter). The first store opened in 1840 by Samuel Spriggs and his wife Sarah Spriggs at what is now Rutland Street corner First Avenue North. A post office was established here on April 14th, 1847 by Wm Butterfield with the name "Hutchinson". During World War II, many people from nearby Decatur came to work at munitions plants near Austin while others worked for local farms orchards or raising chickens on huts made of logs piled one high into which animals could go if necessary to escape being shot at by Japanese forces occupying Manchuria during World War II; these buildings still stand today within walking distance of Hibiscus Hall Elementary School on EastSecond Street near Interstate 35E/I-35W arterial traffic.) In 1925 two brothers named Harry Fenton purchased 10 acres east of present day Hutchinsons Creek Road where they built a home known as Forest Home which remains standing today across Hutchinsons Creek Road from Highland Park Elementary School across from Walmart Supercenter off I-35E between Loop 610 South and Hwy 611 South units 2 through 5 are now open to public tours 9/11 Memorial Museum next door
