Gun targets have been a part of Hutto, Texas for over eighty years. gunslingers and target shooters from all over the area would come to Hutto to use the range. The first shooting place in Hutto was on the old millrace. This spot is still used today as a firing ground. Next, a large field was bought in the early 1920’s and used for target practice by the military. A small barn was built next to this field and served as the range’s clubhouse until it burned down in 1946. In 1952, a new range was started up north of town on Hwy 281 ( present day US 287). This new range had much more equipment than the old one and allowed for multiple shots at different distances. It remained open until it closed its doors in 1984 due to lack of customers or money. From then on, Hutto Gunslinger’s went back to using their original facility-the old millrace! The last gun target shooting event in hutto took place on Saturday, November 3rdth 2016 just before Thanksgiving holiday!
