Newlin, who ran it from 1893 to 1898. From 1898 to 1902, C.A. "Sandy" Smith ran it until he sold it to Wm Jarrell in 1902. It remained with Jarrell until his death in 1957; it then passed down through his family until its sale to George Ladd in 1959. In 1959, Ladd turned the stand over to George Gertz for use as a storage facility; Gertz later sold the stand and land back to McFarlane's son-in-law, James Averill McFarlane Jr., who operates the stand today as a tourist attraction known as McFarlane's Target Stand."
Hurst is a town in Wheeler County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Hurst were Spanish traders and explorers who established trading posts along the Red River in 1823. In 1835, John Nolen purchased land east of the river from the Mexican government for $2,000. He named his new land "Hurst" after Drury Lane in London. In 1856, J.B. Hurst founded a flour mill on Main Street and soon developed into a leading flour and feed company with extensive production throughout central Texas and beyond. In 1904, he donated land to build an American Legion post near his mill complex that remains today as Fort Hurdle Park Museum & History Center. In 1907, John Waddell built a cotton gin on Prairie Road which became known as Waddell's Cotton Mill Complex (now glass factory). The plant produced high quality cotton until it closed in 1971 and was sold to Texaco for $27 million$. The property has been used for housing since then before being condemned for misuse by the city government and leased back to Texaco who demolished it in 2002 as part of their environmental cleanup campaign.. The site of the old cotton gin can still be seen today just south of I-10 Exit 281A off FM 1460 where you can see two large concrete igloos that once held raw cotton bales while they were processed at Waddell's Cotton Mill Complex!

Hurst, Texas is a town in Coryell County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The town was founded by brothers John and James Hurst in 1874. They named it for their father-in-law, David Hurlbut. In 1886, the town incorporated as a municipality and had a population of 350. In 1912, Hurst became an unincorporated community within Coryell County and remained so until 1981 when it became part of the larger Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first post office in Hurst opened on December 6, 1875; it was renamed to its present name on October 15 of that year. The first settler in what is now Hurst was James Maud assigned to this post by Governor George Wickersham under the order of then-President Ulysses S. Grant III because he could speak English well enough to carry out official duties as clerk for the newly organized county courthouse located about five miles east of town limits on Sam Houston Parkway (later I-35). In 1887 Jens Bendixsen arrived from Denmark with his family and started farming land southeast of town near Waco Creek while John Hurlbut farmed land northeast of town along Buffalo Bayou. This early history can be found in local papers such as "The Herald" dated February 2 1902 which reported: "John Hurlbut has just brought over his wagon train full of potatoes from Illinois where he has been planting them." Later that year James Maud married Anna Cramer and began raising crops west of town along Buffalo Bayou south of Current Road on what is now known as Old Cox Farms property adjacent to current day Browning Ranch Road on Crockett County Rd #4201 about six miles north east from Town limits on Sam Houston Parkway Interstate 35 running through today's University Park approximately 8 miles northwest from downtown Austin Abbott Rd starting at intersection with University Blvd behind Astrodome
The town of Hurst, Texas was founded in 1879 by John A. Hurst and his wife, Sarah E. Hunt. The town was named after the Hurlbut Ranch in Indian Territory which served as the original home of the Hursts. The ranch was sold in 1881 and the family moved to a new farm located east of town. The farmstead served as their summer home until they moved to their present location in 1924. In 1907, John A.Hurst donated land to build a school which opened in 1909. In 1921, the first post office opened in Hurst and remained open until 1953 when it merged with the neighboring towns of Fort Worth and Arlingtonville. In 1984,Hurst voters approved a sales tax increase for local services such as fire protection and public works
