In 1907, following annexation by Austin, it received its own ZIP code, 78701 In 1970s Hurst experienced rapid growth with many businesses moving into the city from outlying areas including rural areas near interstate 35E and US 287/I-35W . Most notable among these businesses were Dell Computer founder Michael Dell's original company HQ2 which opened up shop on Commerce Street in 1984 before moving to their current building on Guadalupe Street within 2 years The influx of businesses led to increased traffic congestion throughout much of downtown and along Business Loop 620 which bisected Hurst during this time

Hurst is a town in Webb County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–Bryan metropolitan area. The first people to live in Hurst were settlers from England and Scotland who came overland in 1836. They named their new settlement "Hurst". A post office was established in 1837, and the first store was built in 1840. In 1867, a depot was built on the railroad between Amarillo and Bryan. The town name changed to "Hurst" when it became part of Webb County. In 1907, the National Guard Armory was built on Main Street near where present-day Hurst High School stands today. This armory served as headquarters for many years for Webb County sheriff's deputies and other county officials during peacetime until it closed its doors in 2003 due to budget cuts. In 1965, Hurst hosted the annual Texas State Fair which attracted an estimated 100,000 people to its grounds that year alone. In 2006-2007 Hurricane Ike caused extensive damage to several businesses within town limits including the Community Bank building which still stands as a reminder of howhurricane Ike could impact small towns like Hurst

In 1876, the Hursts donated land to create a cotton gin and factory. The town continued to grow throughout the 1800s, thanks in part to its location near cattle drives and railroads. By 1907, Hurst had over 12,000 residents.
