Hurst, Texas is an unincorporated community located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,792 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest community in Hudspeth County. The town of Hurst was founded in 1871 by J.M. Hurst and his wife Eliza Bowerman. In 1907, the town became a county seat with the construction of a courthouse and jail within its boundaries. The name of the county seat changed to Hurst in 1912 as a result of changes to county government made by Governor James Klinebeck. In 1980, Hurst had no residents living within its borders so it annexed neighboring communities of Grand Prairie and Springdale which had all grown rapidly since they were annexed without any consideration for how their populations would merge into one larger city or village. The two towns are now part of the cities of Grand Prairie and Springdale respectively; however, both still maintain their own elementary schools (Hurst Elementary School and Springdale Elementary School) and businesses (Grand Prairie Mayor’s Office Complex & Springdale Mayor’s Office). According to 2000 census data, there are only 1,821 people living withinurdy’s borders- making it one of America’s youngest census-designated places (CDP). With such a small population it has few services available to average citizens like libraries or parks; however there are several unique stores that provide what little access Hurst has to culture and Recreation options outside its walls! Today much like when it first started out there really wasn't much else going on around here but farming until things changed with all this oil money coming through right after 9/11/2001 things turned really wild we all just kindof got used to being something other than rural
