In 1842, Methodist missionaries traveled through Fort Worth looking for a new place to settle and they met with approval from Colonel John Hawkins of the Army Corps of Engineers to build a settlement on what is now State Road 6 near present-day Hurst Lake. Captain James Hinson also purchased land in 1842 and started building homes around what are today downtown streets. In 1845, General Sam Houston donated 20 acres (8 hectares) of land east of present-day Hurst Lake to be used as a county seat for Fort Worth County. On November 8, 1850, when Houston was elected president of the Republic of Texas, he approved plans for an agricultural center called Denton which would include Hurst as its centerpiece. By 1860, however, Denton had failed to take off and many buildings have since been destroyed or replaced within the city limits that once surrounded it including Grains Mill which stood across FM 620 from where Park Place now stands In 1865 local publisher Asa Gray founded The Dallas Morning News here after leaving his native Boston following the American Civil War In 1886 Dutch Reformed pastor Pappa Jansen organized a congregation here known as First Presbyterian Church which remains active to this day In 1893 post office opened with mail sent from Guthrie until 1929 when it was moved back into Dallas After World War II much development took place outside of Fort Worth such as Interstate 10 being built nearby while other towns withinFort Worth grew larger such as Richardson and Grand Prairie In 1957 Hurst Peak Elementary School opened in downtown followed by Addison Middle School in 1962 before finally closing in 1978 due to budget cuts . Current location is Southfork Elementary school . The growth that occurred outside of Fort Worth during this time led some people withinfortworthto feel left out and neglected . This feeling didn't disappear after years passed but gradually dissipated over time particularly among younger generations ; instead more focus shifted towards economic development opportunities throughoutthe greater fort worth area zippernowincludedowntownhurtown , Richardsonandgrandprairie

The town has also been successful in developing new industry including several manufacturing plants that have since closed or been sold off.
In 1836, Texas was acquired by the United States from Mexico. The area now includes Hurst, TX. The town began as a small agricultural town in what is now Tomball County and it grew rapidly during the 1840s due to the fact that new territory was being acquired west of the Brazos River. In 1849, the town became an incorporated municipality and it continued to grow until 1870 when oil exploration started in nearby Permian Basin and eastern Texas led to a rapid growth in Hurst. By 1910, Hurst had become one of the largest towns in Texas with a population of over 50,000 people.
