Hurst, Texas is a small town in the US state of Texas. It is located in Hudspeth County. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. The history of Hurst begins with Joby and Anna Hinton who settled on a farm in 1885. They were followed by their three children Bill, Gladys and Roy. In 1901, the family moved to what is now the downtown area of Hurst which they named after their father-in-law, Lorenzo Crouch (1868–1951). After World War I ended, many veterans returned to America and started businesses in Hurst such as the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and J.B. Hunt Oil Refinery which helped make the town into one oftexas' most vibrant communities during its early years. A post office called Hurst was established in 1903, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1922. In 1969, local businessmen Lamar Hinton and Don Rankin founded Rankin Manufacturing Corporation which manufactured agricultural equipment including tractors, combines, balers and diesel engines; Rankin also marketed a variety of groceries including cornmeal products, canned goods and processed meats under the name "Rankin's". In 1974 Rankin merged with Litton Industries to form Litton–Hurst Inc.; however this merger failed due to antitrust concerns raised by Big Spring attorney Harry Newton over potential collusion between major retailers Litton–Hurst Inc., Sears Roebuck & Co., JBL Retail Stores Limited (a subsidiary of Sears Holdings) and other companies within Sears Holdings that sold items made by those companies outside its own divisions (/divisions). Newton went on to become chairman emeritus for both retail conglomerate AIG Group plc., an insurance company formerly chaired by John Singletary Hearn (CEO from 1997 until his death), as well as current CEO Eddie Jordan’s predecessor Rick Wagoner’s former employer at AIG Group Plc.. Hurst was a small town in Brazos County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is now a ghost town. The town of Hurst was founded in 1883 by John and Anna Hurst. The first post office was established in 1885. The name of the town derived from Hartsville, Alabama which John and Anna's father had been born in. In 1886, the railroad arrived and Hurst quickly became an important community with its sawmill and smelter being one of the most important businesses in the area. In 1907, when President Theodore Roosevelt visited Brazos County he decided to make Hurst his winter home and stayed there for two weeks before returning to New York City on February 5th). In 1911, during World War I, General John J. Pershing made an inspection tour of Texas and found that much needed improvement including roads but also praised Hurst's "outstanding" millinery district where he remarked that “not one American has ever equalled the excellence or beauty of any plant here” One such plant built by Anna Hurst is still extant today - The Gourd Necklace Company which manufactures beautiful necklaces out of gourds harvested from local farms near Corpus Christi. In 1932-1933 Hurricane Clare caused extensive damage to parts of Texas as well as Iowa & Kansas so much so that some residents abandoned their homes temporarily while others hastily reconstructed them using materials they could find lying around their communities such as posts & beams from destroyed buildings etcetera . Despite this natural disaster many people continued to live in Hursts until after it passed through about 1945 when many were forced out due to lack of food or other resources available following the war ( although some returned over time ). Post office manager Harry Crouch said "about 1945 there wasn't anything left except bare poles with no mail coming into or leavingHurston". By 1951 all post offices had closed down either because they were taken over by other agencies like Welfare America which took over all public assistance programs or because ownership changed handsmultiple times throughout history making it difficult to determine exactly when a particular post office ceased operations however according to archived records it probably closed sometime before 1975possibly earlier if we take into account that both Cumberland Post Office (which reopened afterHurston's closure)& San Angelo Mail Station (opened shortly afterwards)both opened on December 1rd 1951 just months afterHurston's closing." So basically within less than 10 years all regular mail stop coming into & going out from HurstonPost Office despite efforts by management both past & present" This demonstrates just how popular postal service services were here back then especially given how isolated most towns/villages must have felt without proper communication channels!
