In 1865, following the Americans' victory over Mexico at Palo Alto Bridge during the American Civil War, Ulysses S. Grant arrived in Humble courtesy of General John Pershing and granted it to America via proclamation as part of Grant's "New West." Since then, much has changed about Humble - including its annexation by Dallas in 1914 and its designation as a city by Mayor William Crain in 1936 - but its core values remain unchanged: entrepreneurship and family-friendly lifestyle are among the most important elements hereabouts.
