Humble, Texas is a city in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 953 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. Humble is a small town with a large university and shopping district. One of the earliest settlements in what is now Humble was by Texans who had been driven out of their homes in East Texas by the Indian War and Mexican-American War. They built their first post on what is now FM 1541 near present-day Grapevine east of San Jacinto Street (now Loop 610), here known as "Bullock's Station". In 1836, James Robertson founded Ector College in Humble to provide education for freedmen from various slave states. The college remained open until 1865 when it merged with Baylor University to form Baylor University System. Humble grew rapidly during Reconstruction following the American Civil War, becoming an agricultural center with cotton plantations and cattle ranches. By 1920 it had over 100 businesses including 14 banks and 38 grocery stores; its population reached 1,500! However growth slowed after World War II as technology replaced agriculture as the dominant factor in local economic growth. In 1950s developer John Wahlberger started developing Higbee Hall which became one of Houston's most successful urban renewal projects ever resulting in more than 2,000 jobs being created within its first year alone! Higbee Hall quickly became one of Houston's most visible landmarks – home to then Astros owner George Roush’singer Stadium (now Minute Maid Park) – and helped spur downtown revitalization that continues today. After years of steady housing development – starting with First Baptist Church’s construction of its own original church building in 1966 – Humble exploded into activity during the late 1990s/early 2000s suburban sprawl that surrounded it; this led to much criticism from residents who saw their community slowly disappearing while suburbs flourished nearby! However recent studies have shown that there may be some benefits to continued redevelopment instead of allowing suburbia to take over again!

Humble is a small town in Vernon County, Texas, located on the east bank of the Trinity River. The population was 1,736 at the 2010 census. It was named for George Humble, a local cattle dealer and postmaster. The first permanent settler in Humble was Jesse Hardin in 1847. Hardin built a log cabin near what is now Main Street and Blacksmith Lane. He also raised pigs and hogs on his farmstead until he sold it to John Bigham in 1851. Bigham ran a ferry across the Trinity River from his farmstead to Humble for passengers and goods coming downriver from Georgetown and other settlements on the upper Trinity River. In 1870, Jens Munch bought land along Blacksmith Lane from Hardin. He started building houses there about this time. In 1875, Munch donated land to the Methodist Episcopal Church for a church cemetery; that same year, he also built a schoolhouse at Main Street/Blacksmith Lane). The first religious services were held in this schoolhouse on October 15th of that year by Revs Wm Fenton (Jens Munch's nephew) and Arent Sargent (a white Methodist preacher who had come to live in Vernon County after moving away from Nashville). Other early settlers include Increase Arthur (1849-1937), Joel Cashier(1850-1925), Hiram McAdams(1852-1925), Amos Richardson(1854-1928), Peter Smith(1859-1939), John Kline (1860-1920), James Clements(1862-1900) and Myron Starbuck (b born 1865). The community received its name from George Humble, an early resident who became postmaster here about 1888. Mr. Humble had been instrumental in helping to build the new county courthouse here which opened in 1893.
