In 1892, Humble, Texas was the site of the first commercial ammunition plant in the United States. The facility produced .22 caliber rifle rounds and other small arms ammunition. It was operated by Samuel Colt and his company, Colt Firearms Manufacturing Company. Ammunition production continued until 1903 when it was discontinued due to high costs of shipping products to Europe. In that year, Colt merged with Remington Arms Company and operations at Humble were absorbed into that company’s munitions business. The early ammunition plants in America were based on two principle strategies: manufacturing large quantities of low-quality projectiles for soldiers at home while also exporting finished munitions to buyers in Europe; and using local resources – such as mule trains carrying heavy artillery shells – to transport ammunition over long distances. At first, all these efforts failed because of high transportation costs and a lack of reliable supplies from abroad. However, as technology improved and equipment became more common in American arsenals, production began to increase at both the home plants and export facilities. By 1912, Ammo Plant #1 had become operational at a new location on what is now FM 729 in downtown Humble (now part of the University District). This period saw significant technological advancements including development of breechloading rifles which made loading ammo easier than it had ever been before; increased efficiency due to improvements in metalurgical techniques; advances in explosives technology including picric acid;and even developments in transportation methods which made it possible for goods to be transported long distances without having to be unloaded or stored onsite

Additionally, the city hosts numerous annual events including The rodeo (a Cowboys/Rodeo event), The Festivals (a music festival), Independence Day Celebration (a fireworks display) and Christmas Eve celebration known locally as "Christmas night."
