This early democracy within rancho formative years helped lead to eventual annexation into US territory following Mexico's formal cession from Spain less than two weeks later triggering all sorts of political issues surrounding annexation such as whether or not slavery should continue – slaveholders won out over abolitionists in this vote having already gained power through their Iberian holdings providing financial backing both politically & militarily necessary for Annexation proceedings (& status quo ante).
