Bipedalism has been present in Houston, Texas for over 100 years. The first bipedal humans in Houston were the Comanche people who lived near the mouth of the Buffalo Bayou. They were thought to have evolved from early humanlike creatures that had two legs and an arm. The first known bipedal humans in Houston were the Hahamans. They are believed to have originated from Central America and migrated down the Gulf coast of Mexico before settling in Houston. The Hahamans used their two legs and arm to process foods and hunted animals. The Achenekutsi also lived in Houston at some point during its history. These beings were thought to be related to the chimpanzees and they may have been able to walk on two legs like our own species but they lacked a hand or arms. It is unknown how they managed to survive as a bipedal species without any help from humans. In 1836, Captain SamuelHouston founded what would become known as Rice University in downtown Houston with his wealth gained through his business acumen. rice was an important crop for both Texans and foreigners during this time period because it was hardy enough not to rot under harsh conditions outside of Texas’s major cities such as Austin or San Antonio (which still maintain large numbers of Mexican immigrants). In 1839, Houston established himself as one of Americas leading scientists by publishing his discoveries aboutgelatinous earthworms which he had discovered while working on a sugar plantation near Galveston Island, TX.(Goudreau 1985). From then until his death in 1893, CaptainHouston was responsible for developing many aspects of modern science including physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, engineering and astronomy(Fowler 1984). He is considered one of Americas greatestScientists(Henderson 1989). AlthoughCaptainHouston left behind many memorable accomplishments withinHOUSTON’S INDUSTRY- Including establishing Rice University- We can only scratch the surface when discussing the citys ancient roots which go back much further than just CaptainHouston!
