Horizon City is located in Smith County, Texas, about sixty miles north of Austin. The population was 5,472 as of the 2000 census. Horizon City is a small town with a small school system and no hospital. It has one store and one grocery store. The only industry in Horizon City is agriculture which produces hay and other feed products for animals in nearby rural areas. The community was founded by settlers who arrived in 1855 from Illinois.A post office was established at Horizon City on March 15, 1856, and service was continued until October 9, 1865 due to the lack of facilities at that time. In 1867 the Post master decided to move the post office to an existing building east of town; this building still stands today as the local government center for Horizon City. In 1896 a sawmill was built along Buffalo Creek near present-day downtown Horizon City; this mill continues to operate today as a grain elevator. In 1907 a general store/grocery opened; this store remains open today as the only business in town.. In 1916 construction began on what would become Summit Mall which closed five years later due to financial difficulties. I n 1922 two churches were erected: First Baptist Church (later renamed Mount Carmel United Methodist Church) and Second Presbyterian Church (). These churches remain active today although their congregations have shrunk since thendue primarily to declining membership rates within their respective denominations.). After World War II there wasn’t much growth or change until the late 1970s when new businesses started popping up all over town including several restaurants and bars that helped revitalize downtown area giving it some much needed life back into it during those difficult times……….Today’s skyline can be seen looking out over Highway 183 just south of downtown where you can find several high-end stores like Applebees (that relocated from San Antonio), Macy’s & Sears etc., among many more smaller businesses making up what used once been known as “The Hub” district full of all sorts of shops serving all sorts of people…..Just minutes away from downtown you will find shopping centers like Live Oak Mall which includes an IMAX theater, Target, JCPenney & Home Depot - plus numerous independent retailers…..All told it seems that if you are looking for something specific it should not be too hard to find it but if you are just trying to wander around things may seem more dispersed than ever before……………It really couldn’t be said that HorizonCity has changed too much since its founding however there definitely has been an overall decline in both employment opportunities throughout most every sector outside of agriculture so while things might not be bad right now they could definitely use some help!

Horizon City is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, seat of Galveston County. The population was 576 at the 2010 census. The name "Horizon" comes from a rancho that was located on what is now Main Street in town and it was given to the community by its founders as an ode to British explorer John Crealock's journey through Texas in 1841-1842. What began as an agricultural village grew into a bustling metropolis by 1890, when oil rigs began drilling for petroleum near Horizon City Harbor and nearby Refinery No. 1. In 1915, Japanese Americans were forcibly relocated from West Coast cities during World War II and placed within military camps in Texas; many Horizon City residents also served in the military during that time. As oil prices plummeted after production peaked in 1969, downtown businesses closed their doors or moved out of reach for most people living within walking distance of refineries or jobs at those refineries (or both). In 1976, when Marathon Oil Corporation merged with Texaco Inc., local leaders pushed hard to keep the refinery open while Texaco unsuccessfully attempted to buy it back from Marathon Oil Corporation; this effort helped launch what would become known as "the refinery wars" between Marathon and Texaco over who would control which refining plants could be used to produce gasoline and other products sold throughout Southwestern America and beyond—an era of high energy prices that continued until 2000s when refining capacity became more expensive than natural gas due to discoveries in shale formations around Houston, TX.. In recent decades, Horizon City has experienced growth as a bedroom community forHoustonians working Downtown or along Interstate 10 outside of Midtown Houston; however much like any other city, development can have negative effects on neighboring communities if not managed responsibly. For example, buildings erected along I-10 south of downtown Houston – such as One Energy Center – have made extensive use of artificial lighting which casts shadows long after evening services have ended causing major problems for pedestrians crossing I-10 at night; these same issues cropped up years later when lights were turned off along portions eastbound I-10 following Hurricane Harvey’s landfall because diesel fuel costs increased post-Harvey due to higher availability from storage tanks! Additionally, attempts by developers to rezone neighborhoods adjacent to existing industrial areas has resulted in loss/gainof valuable land where schools used to sit: now factories are abandoned with empty lots housing high rises overlooking downtown cores full of light pollution equivalent TO Tucson AZ!
