An important aspect of local life has always been agriculture; with over 60% of residents employed directly or indirectly in agriculture as compared to non-agricultural jobs%. Today's agricultural economy revolves around five farms which offer produce such as fruits and vegetables, eggs, milk products, haynesseed oil (a key source of income for many farmers), cottonseed oil (used for biodiesel production) and soybeans (for animal feed). There are also three wineries located within 15 miles of HorizonCity - two producing red wine and one producing white wine - as well as several grocery stores along Interstate 10 serving both local patronsand visitors alike.
