Horizon City, Texas is home to one of the most important shooting ranges in the United States. The range was opened in 1926 and has been used by both law enforcement and paramilitary shooters for over fifty years. It is now a National Historic Site, making it a place where people can come and experience what it’s like to shoot with real live firearms. The first handgun Range in Horizon City was opened by the Sheriff of Dallas County in 1925. This range was used for training officers on how to use handguns. Gunfights were then fought at this location until 1974 when the present day Shooting Range Complex was built. The current Shooting Range Complex was designed by architects Phillip Johnson and his son Philip Johnson Jr. This complex has more than twenty-five acres of land that can be used for hunting, target shooting, rifle events, and pistol matches. There are also three buildings that can be rented out for shoots: the Pistol Hall, Rifle Hall, and Shotgun Halls. These buildings have a total surface area of sixty-six acres! In addition to its historic setting and NRA memberships, Horizon City also offers many other amenities such as an outdoor pool (with ten swim lanes), tennis courts, playgrounds/ bouncy castles/hiking trails as well as children’s play areas complete with safety fences! There are also several restaurants nearby if you need food or drinks during your shoots!

In the early 1870s, a man named John D. Waterfield settled in the town of Horizon City, Texas. He owned and operated a business called the Well-Tempered Glass Works. The company was successful andWaterfield was able to purchase some land east of Horizon City and build a large factory. The well-tempered glass works became one of the largest glass businesses in America. In the 1920s, John W. Woolridge moved to Horizon City from Dallas and started his own glass manufacturing company. Woolridge's company produced high-quality window frames and other products for many local homes and businesses. In the 1930s, Woolridge passed away, but his son continued operations of the company until his death in 1984. The familyowned business later merged with another Glaswegian business to form British Glass Holdings Ltd., which still manufactures high-quality window frames today.

Horizon City is a town in Wise County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–Bryan Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in the area were farmers and stock raisers who came to what is now Horizon City in 1879 from Missouri and Kansas. They built their first homes on land that later became known as Will Rogers Ranch. In 1887, a group of men from Dodge City, Kansas founded the town of Horizon City on a tract of land they had bought from an old Indian chief. The name "Horizon" was chosen because it appeared in a map of central Texas made by John Wesley Powell when he explored the region in 1869-70. In 1907, there were only 71 people living in Horizon City; by 1912 it had grown to 498 residents. A store and post office were established soon after and by 1915 there were three churches and two schools located within the town limits. The population increased rapidly during World War I due to shortages of food and war supplies available outside of Dallas/Fort Worth; as a result, businesses mushroomed throughout downtown (including one which served as both a movie theater and hotel). By 1920 all but one business had closed or moved away; however, six additional businesses opened up over the next ten years including two grocery stores and four restaurants. During this time, many people started working at local mines or logging camps nearby while others continued farming or ranching along the Rio Grande River valley east of town. Despite its rapid growth during wartime boom times, Horizon City saw little progress until the late 1960s when new Interstate 20 was routed through Amarilloqlbranlle making it easier for commuters to reach Dallas/Fort Worth without having to go through Horizon City
In 1835, the Republic of Texas was founded and the first settlers arrived in what is now Horizon City. In 1836, a post office was established in the town and it remained in operation until it was closed by the government in 1865. The town experienced rapid growth during its early years, with several businesses opening up and residents making their homes. However, by 1840 the population had shrunk to just six residents and by 1860 only two people lived in Horizon City. By 1870, all of the original businesses had closed down or been sold off, leaving Horizon City almost entirely without any commercial activity. Despite this lack of prosperity, some citizens persevered and started a few small businesses around town. Over time these businesses grew into large successful entities that still operate today. Despite his struggles at home, John Denton decided to come make his mark on Horizon City and started an oil well company there in 1875. Denton's venture proved to be very successful and he quickly became one of the most influential men in town. He helped to expand the local economy and build some of the city's biggest landmarks such as The Gilded Age building (which still stands) and The Oil House (which burned down in 1951). In addition to his business ventures, Denton also spent many hours helping to improve life for locals through his leadership skills as mayor from 1881-1885 and again from 1895-1901. Throughout his lifetime he made significant contributions to Horizon City charities including founding The John Denton School which continues to provide education opportunities for children throughout downtown!
