Horizon City is a small town located in Waco County, Texas. The population was 1,607 at the 2000 census. Horizon City is part of the Waco–Fort Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town began as a rancho on the banks of the Trinity River by Captain J.F. Lubbock and his family in 1881. In 1907, the city was founded by George Price and his wife Belle Price to provide employment for their father-in-law's cattle ranch north of Waco. They named their new city after General John Fenton Richardson's headquarters east of Austin in that year. The first day of business was June 6, 1907. In 1911, Horizont City joined League of American Cities and became its affiliate city with a population of 10,000 residents within its boundaries plus 100% representation from women in all levels of government. It remains an affiliate city today with a population over 15,000 people including 7,500 women and 4,500 men who are members or board members of local organizations such as library directors or firefighters unions Local 514 (Watertown), and Horizon Business Association which provides marketing services to businesses within its jurisdiction totaling $2 million per year to more than 350 businesses located in Waco metropolitan area alone! The association also sponsors several annual events including the Summit Awards Banquet/Exhibit Center Showcase Dinner honoring not only local artisans but national & international exhibits; 3 nights each yr., Preeminent Achievement Awards banquet; Heritage Festival featuring live music every evening during Octoberfest weekend; Dallas Cowboys preseason game televised nationally on KRLD-TV Sunday morning preceding kickoff time; civic programs throughout lessee period annually culminating with Homecoming Parade held annually on Saturday night near downtown! In 1861, Battle of San Jacinto took place within the borders of Horizon City and as a result, many residents fled the city for fear of battle or civil war. The town gradually grew back to its pre-battle size by 1865 though it would not regain its previous prominence until 1880 when oil discoveries were made in nearby Titusville and Horizon City became one of the main centres for oil production in Texas. In 1902, an express company called Texaco started operations in Horizon City making it one of the first towns near petroleum refineries. asphalt production began shortly thereafter which helped increase business activity and make Horizon City more prosperous than ever before; however, this prosperity did not last long as World War I interrupted development and caused a decrease in profits overall due to increased competition from elsewhere in Texas. After World War II ended, businesses slowly returned to their former levels but there has been no significant growth since then as technology has taken precedence over industry developments (eclipsing horizons once again).
