The history of the knife industry in Horizon City goes back to 1907 when two Mexicans, Héctor Escobar and José Francisco García del Rio, started producing swords in their hometown of El Paso. They were followed soon thereafter by other Mexicans within the city limits who began making knives for local markets. By 1925, there were already over 10 knife companies operating in Horizon City alone! Throughout its long history, Horizon City has been at the forefront of innovation with respect to blade design and manufacture. In 1957, for example, they became the first city in America to ordinance regulating sales and use of handguns! This was a big step forward for gun control in America at that time – it helped create greater safety for citizens! Additionally, in 1984 they became the first city in Texas to pass a complete ban on switchblades! Today’s knife industry is still very much dominated by Mexican-born manufacturers such as San Miguel de Allende & Co., Chaparral Cutlery Company Inc., Repco Corporation and Herreras y Garza SA. Horizon City is located in Tarrant County, Texas. The population was 16,591 at the 2010 census. It is a city in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The mayor of Horizon City is Sid Miller. The first permanent settler in what would become Horizon City was John Wesley Powell who arrived on July 3, 1870. He named his new land "Powell's Land." In 1872, another man by the name of George Rector bought the land and established himself as a druggist and general storekeeper. A year later, he built a school house on the site that would serve as the town's first courthouse and jail until 1907 when it was replaced by the current building which stands today on State Highway 121 east of downtown. In 1901, Wacoal Field Company began to develop oil wells in what became known as "Horizon City." By 1906, there were over 100 businesses operating in Horizon City with an estimated population of 2,000 people living within 10 miles of downtown. By 1912, it had grown so large that it warranted its own city charter and incorporation under the name "Dallas". On December 15th that year, Dallas voters approved incorporation with a population of 20,362 residents; 467 more than what had been included in Horizon City’s charter! The original boundaries for both cities were 1 mile wide but due to growth they gradually widened to their present day dimensions including much of West Dallas today! In 1916 William Jett purchased 640 acres south of town which he used as pastureland until 1935 when he donated it to developers for use as an industrial park called Jett Park! At its peak this complex employed over 5200 people making it one of Dallas' largest employers from 1916 until its closure in 1982! Today only a small portion remains standing including some initialedia buildings along I-10/Uptown Expressway remnants

In the early 1800s, Horizon City was a thriving town located in what is now Medina County, Texas. It was founded by Captain James Hudgins and his wife, Sarah, on the banks of the Brazos River. The Hudginses were pioneers in this area and their home became known as "The Oaks." They had a large farm that produced hay, cotton, cattle, pigs and other livestock. In 1836, when Texas became a state, Horizon City voted to remain within its borders. A few years later it lost its charter but continued to thrive due to its advantageous location and lack of competition from other towns in the area. By 1851, however, Horizon City's prosperity had all but disappeared because of the Panic of 1837. The economic recession caused many businesses to close their doors and there was little opportunity for residents to support themselves with their agriculture or trade skills. The population declined rapidly after that event which led to an increase in crime and poverty. By 1860 Horizon City's population was only 594 people living in 87 households! However, thanks toCaptain James Hudgins' donation of land at what is now called "The Oaks," Horizon City experienced a resurgence beginning in the 1870s thanks to new entrepreneurs who came through the town looking for opportunities. Some of these men made significant contributions such as engineer George Wacoal who built Wacoal Dam on the Brazos River which helped power local mills until it closed down during World War II; entrepreneur Sam Houston (the father of President George H.W. Bush); oilman John Dolphsen; plumber/electrical contractor Myron Dyer; trucker/contractor Harry Fenton; and physician Drury Pritchard-Goode among others – all brought new life into Horizon City during this time period when fortunes were changing constantly across America due largely tooil Diamond drilling frenzy and gold rushes throughout much of Western Europe (Riddle). After more than 150 years since its founding by Captain James Hudgins and his wife Sarah -Horizon City has seen some major changes including becoming one of Texas' most populous cities with over 2 million residents by 2007 -yet despite these challenges it retains an essential quality that has made it one of our favorite small towns: eccentricity quotient!
Horizon City is a city in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 8,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. Horizon City was founded as an agricultural community on the west bank of the Brazos River by settlers from Missouri in 1851. In 1907, pioneer Rufus Norris built the first school and town hall in Horizon City. The city was incorporated on November 06, 1912. The original downtown business district burned down on October 16, 1913 and never reoccupied; it has been replaced by new development to its east since then. On December 26th of that year, disaster struck when a severe drought caused extensive flooding which destroyed many homes and businesses in downtown Horizon City - one of the worst natural disasters to hit Austin- Round Rock during that time period. In 1935, a group of businessmen led by Sam Rayburn formed what became known as "The Rat Pack" and bought the cattle ranch located northeast of town for $1 million dollars. This set off a series of EVENTS which would change Horizon City forever: 1) Hollywood movies filmed there such as "Gone with the Wind" (1939), " Rear Window" (1946), "El Dorado" (1957), etc.; 2) intense oil production began at nearby Midland Proving Grounds; 3) major highway construction began consequent to this industry; 4) much progress was made in education and health care due to medical students who traveled through town for training; 5) most recently, tourism has become an important aspect of local economy
