The name is derived from the Spanish word "horizon" meaning "sunshine." Horizon City's history can be traced back to 1892 when two brothers named Isaac and John Clements established themselves in what is now known as Horizon City. They were inspired to settle their land after seeing a large sunbeam shining down on it from a hill outside of town. The brothers first called their new community "Cedar Grove," but later changed it to "Horizon City" due to its resemblance to the Spanish word for horizon - horizons (hora = morning and zona = land). The original settlers had little hope of making a living from farming because they were located so far away from any major cities or towns. However, over time, some began leasing land in town and started growing crops. By 1924, there were enough farmers in Horizon City that the city government decided to establish its own bank and post office. Today, most businesses within town are owned by local residents or their families who continue to contribute importantly to its economy. One of the most popular activities in Horizon City is playing catch on Thursday nights during summertime with neighborhood children who come together for an afternoon game of tag before going outside for dinner afterwards. Another popular pastime is horseback riding which takes place each Saturday morning throughout fall and winter months at nearby Farm Fields Ranch Park where participants enjoy lunch before starting their ride back home again around 2 p.m. There are also plenty of other activities available such as golfing (to be enjoyed by locals only), fishing (both fresh-catch/frozen option available), bowling on Tuesdays through Saturdays at Lakeside Lanes, watching outdoor concerts at various venues like Live Oak Amphitheater or participating in many community events such as Harvest Festivals which take place every fall season including county fairs that attract tens of thousands of people from all over Webb County!

Since then, it has seen a number of changes including becoming an all- Minority Urban Area by 2003 and being designated as a Hispanic/Latino Ethnic Community by 2014
Horizon City is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 10,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth– Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The settlement of Horizon City began as a stagecoach stop on the Santa Fe Trail in 1859, and by 1865 it had become an agricultural center with over 100 businesses. A cotton gin was built in 1865 and became one of the first in the area. In 1872 the electric telegraph line from Fort Worth to Dallas connected Horizon City with other towns in Tarrant County. The cotton gin closed its doors in 1892, but it reopened as a clothing store called "The Cotton Exchange" two years later. In 1903, a post office was established at Horizon City and remained in operation until it shuttered in 1916. In 1910, oil wells were discovered near Horizon City and production increased quickly; by 1915 there were over twenty oil rigs working at Horizon City. By 1918 some 3,000 people lived within four miles of downtown Horizonsville while ChevronTexaco drilled more than seventy wells inside town limits alone! However, during World War I gas shortages led to many business closures; by 1920 only six businesses still operated within town boundaries! After World War II Horizon City experienced rapid growth thanks to both annexation by Fort Worth and development along Interstate 35; by 1970 it had reached its current population of 10,856 residents! Many new homes were developed around downtown including: The Hills Shopping Center (now known as Midtown), Pioneer Place (now known as Northpark Mall), Medical Arts Center (formerly Herald Oaks Nursing Home), Chilton Place (formerly Northeastern Christian School), and much more!
