Horizon City is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 7,824 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tarrant County. The namesake of Horizon City is a railroad junction that served as an important transportation link between Dallas and Fort Worth during the early days of oil production in the area. The first permanent settler in what would become Horizon City was Moses Fenton who homesteaded on Railroad acres east of present-day downtown in 1881. A post office called "Fenton" was established in 1884, and soon became known for its dry goods store operated by John J. Reid & Bros., which remain one of the town's most prominent businesses to this day. In 1886, Methodist missionaries from Austin arrived in what would become Horizon City and began preaching Christianity to Native Americans and settlers living around Fort Worth and Dallas Mines (now renamed Eagle Ford Uranium Company). They started a school for Native American children located near today's Walnut Street Depot before moving their church to downtown in 1888. The first town meeting was held on October 12th that year to approve annexation by Fort Worth. With growth coming from new oil production along with trade opportunities within theetusaurus community, business interests quickly grew propelling development within the fledgling city limits; such enthusiasm led to incorporation on March 6th of 1889 by vote of all residents; with Mayor Clements being elected president pro tempore. In 1907, Apache Indians raided neighboring towns including Fort Worth leaving many people homeless along with livestock; this event effectively ended any hope for settlement within horizon city boundaries until Apache hostilities subsided later that year following successful negotiations between townspeople and federal forces under General Pershing.. This success allowed new families including two women married into McCloy families who resided at 505 W Walnut Street - daughter Clara McCloy married John Waddell while mother Anna married Harry Myers – setting off an era where familyowned businesses dominated much of western Tarrant County through out much of the 20th century becoming some of history's most influential institutions (eagleFord uranium company being notable exceptions). In 1836, the Republic of Texas was founded by Texans from New Mexico and adjacent Mexican territory. The first organized government in Texas was the Santa Fe Trail Company, which served as a Native American trading post on the route between Santa Fe and Austin. Grant over Houston in the 1862 US Civil War because they were worried about Sherman's Invasion of their state (Houston wanted to keep them divided). In 1865, Grant took Houston's place as Confederate president before being impeached and removed from office after a political scandal; this left TX to be ruled by Democrats until Reconstruction began in 1876.
