Horizon City, Texas is a town in McLennan County, Texas, United States. The population was 805 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1879 by J.C. Nichols and Wm.F. Godfrey as a cotton gin and mill town on the banks of the Brazos River. The name "Horizon" comes from the phrase "the sky is blue." In 1865, General Sam Houston purchased 1,200 acres (500 hectares) of land east of Horizon City from William Bledsoe for $4 per acre ($100 per kilometer). This area became known as Houston Heights and remains part of the city today. In 1879 J.C. Nichols opened his first cotton gin in what is now downtown Horizon City and it soon became one of the most important cotton towns in America due to its location near major rivers and irrigation canals that allowed for large-scale production of crop goods such as cotton, rice, sugarcane, and corn silk. In 1912 Ewing Hite platted what is now downtown Horizon City when he bought property adjacent to Nichols' gin to build a new city center which would include a library, schoolhouse, post office, movie theater and other business properties that were not located within the originaltown limits but still contribute to its unique flavor today. The original communityans lived close together on small plots scattered throughout rural McLennan County until they all decided to move into one central location in order to create an easily accessible transportation hub that could serve their entire area during times of drought or economic hardship - this was also done so they could maintain control over their own destiny without having outsiders meddling with them directly or indirectly through government policies or regulations which often interfered with local businesses operated within their own backyard - this type of self-governance/community spirit continues today as Horizon City residents have been fiercely independent ever since! In 1924 oil began flowing out of Anadarko Petroleum Company's wellhead east of Horizon City under protest from nearby landowners who had worked hand-in-hand with oil industry proponents all along the way! Despite objections from some members of his own party – Mayor Youngstown successfully passed the referendum with nearly 60% support despite opposition from many influential citizens including then Agriculture Commissioner John Sharp – who felt that any sort of open water access would only lead to increased gaming activities inside city limits; however youngstown knew better than anyone how valuable it would be for commerce and development potential within his adopted home – thus paving the way for today’s infrastructure including both light rail transit AND BROKERAGE LOCATIONS BEYOND HORIZON CITY LIMITS! In the 1840s, people in the area of what is now Horizon City were already familiar with a large salt field that lay to the east. The area was first known as Brazoria County and later as Texas. In 1846, when Mexico won their independence from Spain, they ceded this territory to the United States in return for peace and independence from Central America. In 1848, General Antonio López de Santa Anna ordered all Mexican nationals living within U.S. borders to leave or face execution. This order resulted in many Mexican refugees moving into and around Horizon City. Horizon City began its growth as a result of its location on the El Paso-New Braunfels Railroad line which connected El Paso with San Antonio and Austin. The city's population increased rapidly due to these opportunities and by 1860 it had reached 10,000 residents. By 1870, it had grown to 25,000 residents and by 1880 it had reached 50,000 residents. The city's growth continued until World War II when it peaked at 100,000 residents because of wartime rationing restrictions placed on food production in Texas after the war ended. However, by 1960 Horizon City's population had shrunken back below 50 thousand again due to demography changes in the region such as increasing suburbanization and immigration from other parts of Texas into central TX during that time period
