Horizon City is a city in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,824 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Horizon City was founded in 1881 by Enoch Pratt and his wife Lucy as a rail town on the Red River. It grew rapidly due to its location on the railroad and its position as the terminus for passenger trains travelling south to Fort Worth and north to Arlington. The town's first store opened in 1884, and it became an important stop on the Lone Star Railroad. In 1886, Horizon City hosted a Conference on Education which helped create Texas' public schools system. By 1910, Horizon City had become one of the most prosperous cities in Texas with a population of over 100,000 people. However, during World War I (1914–18), business began to decline as Americans left for wartime service; however, during World War II (1939–1945), businesses resumed normalcy although housing prices increased greatly because of post-war demand for entertainment districts such as Arlington Heights and Plano . As recently as 2000s there have been efforts made by some residents to revitalize downtown areas including increasing access to affordable housing units During much of its history Horizon City functioned as an agricultural center with large cotton plantations providing jobs for many local farmers ; however, since deregulation of agriculture in 1990s significant charter schools and other new businesses have sprung up throughout the city creating high quality employment opportunities for locals while also diversifying economy away from insignificant agricultural endeavors

Horizon City is a town in Webb County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo Metropolitan Statistical Area. Horizon City began as a stagecoach stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route in 1881. The post office changed its name to Horizon City in 1902. The first store in the town was built by A.F. Thompson and J.P. Huffman on Main Street in 1907. At that time, it was one of only a few towns west of Amarillo and north of Lubbock with retail stores and services such as banks and automobile salesrooms. The first oil well was drilled near Horizon City in 1911 but no production occurred until 1917 when Wernher von Braun used equipment from his company, EADS Inc., to drill an oil well at Tanque Verde about 25 miles east of Horizon City for Texaco Refinery Company Ltd.. Production increased gradually until the early 1960s when significant investments were made by private companies including Anadarko Petroleum Corporation into shale formations located within 10 miles (16 km) of Horizon City Limits making this area one of the most productive shale formations on earth for natural gas production having been responsible for up to 60% of global production since 2002 while also contributing to skyrocketing prices for gasoline due to over-production volumes! In 2006, Ivar Baker became Mayor after winning a process where all residents had their say through an online survey taken prior to election day which he then followed with public hearings held throughout downtown where citizens could voice their opinions on various issues pertaining to city government including budgeting, land use, infrastructure development etcetera which helped him secure his position pending approval from the State Board Of Education which he currently holds as Vice President/Mayor Pro Tem!
