Horizon City is a small town in the Texas Panhandle that was founded in 1881. The name "Horizon" comes from the fact that this community takes its name from the nearby horizons, which can be seen from many of the buildings in town. The population of Horizon City was 1,811 as of 2010. The history of Horizon City started with a group of farmers who decided to start a new life in what was then known as Indian Territory. They named their town after their favorite horizon view- the one looking out over Tombstone County on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande. In 1881, when Texas became an state, these Farmers set up shop in what is now part of downtown Horizon City. From here they began to build some beautiful homes and businesses that remain today a valuable part of local history and culture. Today, there are over 20 businesses in downtown Horizon City including restaurants, bars and coffee shops; all providing great options for food and drink while you're shopping or doing business around town! Horizon City is a small town in Texas located about 25 miles south of Austin and just east of the Mexican border. It was founded in 1876 by Scots-Irish immigrants, and has had a various history including being the site of two wars, several cattle drives, and being the home to many American governors. Today, Horizon City remains a thriving community with close ties to its rural surroundings and its rich history. The town began as a farmstead on the banks of Buffalo Creek. In 1876, some Scots-Irish immigrants settled in what is now Horizon City, taking up land that had been offered them for sale by ranchers in nearby Wichita County. The first white residents arrived in 1877, when John Hargrave opened a store at Fourth and Congress Streets. In 1880, James Sweeny bought out Hargrave's interest and established himself as one of the town's leaders. By 1903, there were six stores and ninety-six inhabitants living in Horizon City proper; however, it rapidly became an agricultural center due to its fertile soil and ample water resources. The economic boom that followed helped fuel development throughout much of texas during this time period; however, Horizon City also experienced some negative consequences such as social unrest which led to sporadic violence until after World War II. In 1948, Governor John Connally established the University of Texas at Austin (UTA) in nearby Round Rock; this event marked the beginning of growth for both Horizon City and UTA over subsequent decades. The townsfolk responded enthusiastically when UTAs initial downtown building was completed in 1961; this signaled an era of stability for their community which continued until recently despite occasional bursts of crime or physical destruction from local students who disagreed with university policies or felt marginalized by their peers within society overall. Today, many people still live within easy reachof downtown cores like Main Street or Third Avenue where they can access services such as grocery shopping or banking while keeping close touch with their rural roots through markets like Old Town Hall or Main Street United Methodist Church which are open every day from 7am to 5pm since 1915! Additionally, there are numerous parks dotting HorizonCity blocks making it easy to spend quality time outdoors whether you're enjoying relax strolls along Third Avenue Extension or engaging in heated indoor recreations like dodgeball at picnic tables near Sixth Avenue Park!
Horizon City was founded in 1879 by a group of businessmen and entrepreneurs led by J.W. Stephenson. The town grew quickly, becoming one of the leading trading centers on the Texas plains. In 1886, Horizon City became the first city in Texas to issue its own currency, the Valley National Bank Notes. The town's growth prompted development along what is now Loop 375A near Enterprise Airport. In 1955, Horizon City was renamed Dallas after John F. Kennedy's victory in the U.S. Presidential election that year. The name change reflected Dallas' status as a major metropolitan area with a population over 1 million people at the time (versus Horizon City's size). In 1969, when Interstate 20 was built through Horizon City, business owners and citizens came together to form an organization called "The Committee for Highway Development". This group spearheaded efforts to improve highway conditions in Horizon City and other areas of southeastern Dallas County
