Horizon City is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, on the border with Mexico. The population was 7,539 at the 2010 census. Horizon City is part of the Brownsville–Edinburg, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area and its largest city by population size is Brownsville. It lies within theancoastal region and has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen: Cfa) according to the Köppen Climate Classification system. The first Europeans to visit what is now Horizon City were Spanish explorers in 1519 who sighted an area that they called "La Isla de las Flores" or "Island of Flowers." They named it Zacatecas because they thought it might be where Zacatecas Falls came from - but no Falls were found. In 1692, Captain José Félix de Lozada explored this area and discovered a small creeknamed Zacatecas which he named Rio Hondo after his native river Zacatecas in southernMexico. In 1836, Antonio López drove cattle south from Edinburg overland through present-day San Fernando Valley and discovered what would become known as Sam Rayburn Ranch when he sold some land east of San Antonio to James Bowie for $8 per acre in 1837; Bowie renamed it Sam Rayburn Ranch after himself (the original name). In 1840, John Wesley Powell traveled through this area on his famous journey up the Colorado River and named two small creeks – El Aguadero Creek (now Avila Creek) and La Mesa Creek – after US Presidents Franklin D Roosevelt (1884-1945) and Harry S Truman (1945-1953). He also named two mountain ranges – The Loop Mountain Range near Bowman while he was surveying for a railroad line later called Keystone Ridge Road – White Sands Mountains National Monument south of town while exploring this area for potential mineral resources. 2 years later, Houston entrepreneur James Polk acquired some additional land east of San Antonio about 12 miles north of modern day Horizon City along today's IH 35 corridor and founded what would eventually become Houston proper as Houston Heights;Houston Heights had a population of only 1,000 people when it incorporated as a city on December 14th, 1881 In 1916 Gussie Baggett developed an oil well at Bexar County Park northeast of downtown Houston which led to development around Bexar Plaza including Horizon City which began commercial operations November 15th 1916 with Mr Wm Growdy as owner/manager In 1924 JB Hiatt organized what became known as The Cotton Pickers with Roy Rogers being their manager/leader until 1951 When he passed away suddenly leavingItemeldowns Pub owners Bill Cosby & Happy Hodges took over management until 1973 when Berry Gordy bought them out

Horizon City was founded in 1881 by George W. Gentry and his wife, Nancy. The town was located on the banks of the Trinity River, just south of present-day Austin, Texas. It grew rapidly due to its location and was soon known for its cattle ranching and agriculture. In 1912, Horizon City became a city, and it has since grown into one of the largest cities in Texas. The city is home to many notable businesses and organizations, including the University of Texas at Austin (UTA), which was founded in 1976 in nearby Austin. The city also hosts the annual Texan rodeo championship each year, as well as the American Open Cup soccer tournament. Horizon City is also host to several annual festivals, such as the Oktoberfest and State Fairgrounds Festivals.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Horizon City was a small town in Texas. The town was located in what is now Medina County. In the early 1900s, Horizon City was the home of a general store and post office. It also housed a school and a jail. By 1925, the population of Horizon City had decreased to just over 100 people. However, by 1930, the population of Horizon City had increased to almost 300 people due to the arrival of new settlers from Mexico. The town continued to grow until it reached its peak in 1940 when it had around 500 residents. After World War II, the economy of Horizon City declined as many citizens left for better opportunities elsewhere. By 1960, there were only about 50 residents living in Horizon city.
