The Hewitt-based telescope company, Insight Scientific Inc., was founded in 1955 by Dr. Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Dr. Clifford Berry. The Hewitt Telescope Facility was dedicated to the production of astronomical telescopes in 1958 and became operational that year. In 1966, the company relocated its operations to its current location in Hewitt, Texas. In 1975, Insight purchased a 5 million acre parcel of land in central Texas from the University of Texas at Austin for $1 million. This allowed Insight to build an 8-meter telescope on this property which opened in 1978. In 1984, it Purchased a 10 million acre parcel of land located near Waco, Texas from Laurence Epps for $7 million. This allowed Insight to build a 16-meter telescope on this property which opened in 1990. There are many different types of scopes and each has its own benefits and drawbacks. The three main types of scopes are spotting scopes, back-up scopes, and field optics. A spotting scope is a small, lightweight optic that is used to observe small objects at close range. Back-up scopes are smaller but more powerful optical tools that can be attached to rifles or shotguns for supplementary hunting data. Field optics allow the user to see details in much greater detail than any other type of optic. They can be used for target practice, bird watching, and general observation. Spotting scopes provide a high degree of magnification for viewing small objects at close range. However, they are not as durable as back-up or field optics and may suffer from eye fatigue if used continuously for long periods of time. When using a spotting scope with a rifle or shotgun there should be enough magnification available so that the user can clearly see the target while still having some degree of accuracy at all distances. In addition, hunting with a spotting scope should only be done when there is an open opportunity to view the game in situ; otherwise use a backup scope instead.

Hewitt is located near US 59 between I-30 and US 287 on Texas State Highway 107 (TX 107). TX 57 leads east to downtown Dallas and west to Amarillo; TX 107 leads north to Deweyville while TX 1 leads south to Lubbock.

Hewitt is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 513 at the 2010 census. Hewitt was founded by brothers John and David Hewitt in 1887. The town was named for their father, James Hewitt. The first post office in Hewitt opened on July 1, 1889. The town's first store, called the stores of J.D. and H., operated from a building located on Main Street for twelve years before moving to its current location on Commerce Street in 1916. In 1898, the Hewitt Brothers Methodist Church was built and used until 1959 when it became known as First Baptist Church of Hewitt. David Averett Hewitt III died on October 8, 2006 at the age of 83 after a long battle with cancer.
