Hewitt, Texas is a town located in the US state of Texas. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. Hewitt has been a farming community since its founding in 1876. The city was named for Augustus Hervey Hewitt, who donated land to make it a town. The first settlers in Hewitt were two groups of men from northeast Georgia who arrived on horseback in 1876 and built a cabin on what is now Fourth Street. In 1880, they founded the Agricultural and Mechanical University of Texas at Austin (now UT Austin). They also developed land around what is now downtown Hewitt into an agricultural center that produced cotton, corn, wheat, pigs, chickens and other livestock products until World War II. In 1978–79, local businessmen erected the first skyscraper in Austin when they purchased property east of Interstate 35 and north of Sixth Street for $5 million. The building became known as the AT&T Tower and remains one of Austin's most iconic landmarks today. Hewitt experienced rapid growth during the late 20th century as Baby Boomers began retiring or moving away from agriculture-heavy lifestyles to larger cities such as Dallas and Houston. That change led tothe development of many new businesses within Hewitt itself as well as new neighborhoods adjacent thereto including Barton Springs Park and Green Hills Shopping Center across I-35 from downtownAustin proper. Overall this suburbanization has helped increase access to education resources throughout much of historic East Texarkana while continuing to restrict opportunities for economic development outside eastern sections of town - effectively preserving much older fabric within present day Hewitt while promoting newer modes OF housing & amenities near current day employment areas

Guthrie. It is named after General George B. McClellan's home state of Virginia. Hewitt has been a municipal government since 1907 and a county government since 1896. The first post office for Hewitt was established in 1881 and the last post office closed on July 14, 1964. The community began as a small farming village that grew to include cattle and cotton farms over time. In 1907, Hewitt became part of Medina County when it was created from parts of Angelina and Tyler counties. In 1916, the county courthouse was built and served as the county seat until 1957 when Medinaville replaced it on the same site. The population of Hewitt peaked at 2,000 in 1940 but declined to 1,856 by 1960 due to World War II shortages of manpower in the war-torn country. However, growth resumed following the end of hostilities with residents moving into new homes built around industrial parks located within walking distance of their old businesses or stores during postwar boom years before settling back into more traditional patterns of residence over the next few decades while new businesses were developed near downtowns throughout town In 2007–2008, development occurred along State Highway 7 between downtown Hewitt and IH 10 which would eventually amount to over $145 million worth of projects both inside and outside city limits resulting in increased social media visibility for both towns as well as an increase number visitors from outlying areas coming through town on business trips or pleasure flights connecting with larger metropolitan areas

In 1865, Hewitt became the capital of Texas and experienced rapid growth as an agricultural center with large tobacco plantations and cattle ranches.
