The Hewitt gun barrel history began in 1892, when a group of men from the town of Hewitt founded the Hewitt Rifle and Pistol Arsenal. The arsenal was designed to produce rifles and pistols for local farmers and settlers. The first guns made at the armory were shotguns, but soon enough, people started demanding more powerful firearms. So, in 1907, the armory began producing handguns as well. By 1920, the Hewitt Rifle and Pistol Arsenal had become one of the largest arsenals in Texas. It produced over 100 different types of firearms including rifles, shotguns, pistols and revolvers. In addition to its production capabilities, the armory also served as a training ground for future Texans who wanted to own or use weaponry. Throughout its years of operation, Hewitt Arms Armory has been associated with many famous Texans including former Governor Ann Richards (D-TX), Don Payne (R-TX) and former Senator Lloyd Bentsen (D-TX).
Hewitt, Texas is a small town located in Collin County, Texas. The population was 1,869 at the 2000 census. Hewitt is considered a rural community and has a largely agricultural focus. It is home to the Hewitt-based Central State Bank and four schools: Hewitt Consolidated High School, Middle School #1, Hewitt ConsolidatedMiddle School #2 and Hewitt Elementary School. The first settler in what is now Hewitt was James Witherspoon who arrived in 1827. He built a log cabin on the banks of Buffalo Bayou. In 1829, Nicholas Bingham moved from Kentucky to start an agricultural colony called Crawford County which later became collin county. On February 25, 1830, William Fenton acquired 640 acres near present day Lewistown for $5 per acre with intent to build a house and farmstead thereon. The land was parcelized into 10 lots and sold on May 20th 1830 to Ebenezer Barnes for $10 per lot payable installments of $3 each over 5 years starting on December 1st 1831 On October 15th 1840 James Hogg set out from Huntsville with his family (wife Susan; 2 children - Alexander & Elizabeth) & assorted goods bound for London TX where he intended to purchase some lands east of Nacogdoches TX that had been granted by General Sam Houston as part of his Treaty of San Jacinto which ended Texas War I They reached Eagle Pass about November 3rd 1840 when they pack up all their clothes including Elizabeth's stockings and stored them in 4 horses troughs near the post office while they awaited news from England James Hogg died on October 20th 1840 after being journeyed 7 miles westward along Buffalo Bayou trying to find help when he lost his way while crossing country that today is known as US 74 The party finally arrived back at Huntsville on November 9th 1840 where they prepared to leave again but found that both Ebenezer Barnes & John Smith had already left for highland cattle drives leaving only Hogg behind Thus started what would be one of the most successful stagecoaches ever made between Huntsville & Fort Worth - it took 11 days total round trip with stops at Wichita Falls then Lubbock before arriving back at Huntsville December 16th 1840 . A post office was established at Eagle Pass by order of General Sam Houston on January 6th 1841 under the name "Eagle Pass Post" . The first mailcarried mail arrived from New Orleans on February 12th 1841 Hewitt grew rapidly due to its location within easy access of Fort Worth and its role as a transportation Hub for early settlers moving westward . By 1860 the population totaled 3200 with agriculture accounting for over 60% of domestic production . By 1870 agriculture alone accounted for almost 90% of local revenue generating wage employment for about 100 families

He named his new community after his father-in-law, James AthertonRewith (1775–1858), who had been colonel commanding a brigade under General [John] Sibley during the Mexican War and had helped build Fort Worth.
