In Hewitt, Texas, the history of firearms is intertwined with the history of the community. This small town was founded in 1881 by John and Hilda Hewitt. The Hewitt family was responsible for developing many aspects of local life, including farming and gunsmithing. The town grew quickly and soon had a population of around 100 people. By 1907, it had even more people when John's daughter, Gertrude, married rancher George Cummings. In that year, Cummings bought land in what is now Hewitt and constructed a large ranch house on it. He became one of the most important residents of the town and contributed considerably to its growth. Cummings also helped develop gun rights in Texas and he was an outspoken advocate for Second Amendment rights. He hosted a number of meetings to discuss issues related to firearms in his home county and within the larger state area. These meetings gave rise to the development of what is now known asGun Ownership Education Committee (GOEC). GOEC was created in 1954 as part of efforts to promote handgun ownership among Texans through education campaigns and public hearings. GOEC played an important role in making gun control measures such as registration mandatory during those years. The Gun Ownership Education Committee continued its work after Cummings' death in 1975. It played an even greater role after passage of Public Safety Act No.# 71-75 which required all handguns acquired prior to 1/1/1976 be registered with government authorities before they could be used or sold within Texas! The committee continues play today as Handgun Owner Education Center (HOE), Incorporated (a nonprofit educational organization). The history of firearm hats is also intertwined with that of local variations on cowboy hats called "barnes." These hats were typically made from felt or cloth and featured a bandanna or other soft fabric piece around the top edge that served as both head covering and defense against dust storms during summer months. Hewitt is a town in Marshall County, Texas, United States. The population was 597 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Amarillo–Bartlesville–Fayetteville, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. Hewitt is located on the Red River near its confluence with the Arkansas River. The first settler in what is now Hewitt was Levi Coffin in 1836. After some land purchase and platting by local citizens, John Fenton bought 1/4 mile of present-day Hewitt from Coffin on July 11, 1868. He named it after his father-in-law, Ebenezer Hutton of Manchester Township in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. By 1870, several other settlers had moved into Fenton's grant including A C Swartz (1850), Wm S Lewis (1851), Chas B Bacon (1852), Jedediah Baird (1854) and Neely Linstrom (died 1907). On November 6, 1870 John Fenton sold 2/6 mile northeast of present day Hewitt to Augustus Ewing for $100. On December 12th Augustus Ewing sold 1/2 mile east of present day Hewitt to George Prentice for $60 payable within 10 months or he would retake it back at any time without notice. In 1875 an addition to the town was located southeast corner of First Street and Railroad Avenue when that street was renamed Main Street after US senator James Kenedy who had been elected to fill the seat vacated by Andrew Johnson when he became president in 1865 Despite objections from some residents who did not want a main street through their community they agreed to allow one due to Swartz's donation which also funded a school and jail building adjacent to Depot Square that still stands today as evidence of early settlement by Hutchinsons There were no buildings attached to this square until 1886 when a white Methodist Episcopal church was erected across from Post Office Square on what is now Second Street SW corner Third Avenue as part of a larger general store complex built around that time called The Gables Thischurch has since been torn down but parts remain visible along SW sideventh Avenue between Main and Fourth Streets NE corner First Place

Hewitt, Texas is a small town in Dallas County, Texas. The population was 3,898 at the 2000 census. Hewitt is one of the oldest towns in Dallas County and has been in existence since 1855. It is located on the banks of the Trinity River and was named for Lt. Colonel George Prentice Hewitt who served as USArmy colonel during the Mexican-American War,1846-48. The first settlers were farmers who arrived around 1855. By 1870, there were over 100 residents living in Hewitt. Businesses included a store, a post office, and several churches. In 1876, local citizens formed the First Methodist Church which became an independent church until it merged with Assemblies of God in 1919. A foundry was established here in 1865 by John Hoggard and his brother-in-law James Witherspoon and produced cannons for Confederate forces during the American Civil War. The town also boasted two hotels - one opened by Captains Dodge & Brewster in 1875 and another by Jethro Rolland & Co.- operated from 1865 to 1889 before it burned down; both structures have since been demolished or replaced by housing developments. In 1898,- Hewitt hosted its first agricultural fair which attracted attention from all over America due to its excellent exhibits of crops from all overTexas as well as articles about agriculture being displayed on building fronts throughout town A cotton gin was built near Hawkins Street between 1895 and 1897 by A&P Cotton Gin Company founder Larkin Hayden after he discovered that moving cotton seed round trip across country was expensive compared to shipping seeds piecemeal through various ports The Citizens Bank Building (located at 1250 Neches Road) was completed in 1907 as one of Dallas County's earliest commercial buildings When Interstate 35E bypassed downtown Dallas along I-635 southbound on May 1st 1957 making way for what would become Brock Osweiler's massive business expansion - Hewitt lost much of its farming community including many of its homes which are now part of Brock Osweiler's retail development . The only remaining structure standing today is the Community Hall which served as a polling place during early voting days before it burned downSkip Jenkins had plans to demolish most everything around him when he purchased it back from Skip Jenkins Enterprises Incorporated c1959 but never followed through because he did not have permission from city officials
Hewitt, Texas was settled in 1845 by James F. Hewitt and his wife Margaret. The first post office was established in 1846, and the town got its name from General James F. Hewitt who fought in the Mexican-American War. The community experienced growth during the 1850s with a population of around 100 people. In 1870, the population had increased to 350 people and by 1910 it had reached 1,100 people. Growth continued through the late 1800s with an increase to 2,000 people by 1920. However, during World War II there was a decrease in population as many residents enlisted in military service or left for other states. Today, Hewitt has a total population of around 150 people and is considered an agricultural center with some manufacturing activity such as horticulture production
