Hewitt, Texas is a small town located in the far west corner of Texas. The population was 3,846 at the 2010 census. Hewitt is the county seat for Hudspeth County and it is also home to Marshall Air Force Base and NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. The city had a population of 14,031 in 2010. The history of Hewitt dates back to 1881 when two farmers named John and James Hewitt settled on the current site of Hewitt. At that time, there were no towns or villages in Hudspeth County and only scattered ranching settlements existed. In 1911, the citizens of Wichita Falls founded an agricultural society which purchased land east of present-day Hewitt from David Ladd for $2,500. For many years, Hutchison County residents cultivated crops such as corn, cotton, potatoes and wheat on this land which they sold to Wichita Falls residents who then transported goods to Wichita Falls for distribution throughout North Texas. In 1926, the first school was built in Hewitt by Mrs. Fannie Dixon with help from local citizens Robert Pugh and Edwin Davenport Sr., both prominent lawyers who had moved to Hudspeth County from Dallas during the early 1920s seeking new opportunities after leaving their successful law firms there. That same year saw the opening of what would become one ofubbthe most important businesses in Hewitt - First National Bank - which became one of North Texas' leading commercial institutions over the next several decades thanks largely to its deep roots within Hutchison County families who helped build First National into one of America's largest community banks today with more than $10 billion in assets under management across 12 states and Puerto Rico). secondarily due to its excellent customer service reputations (among other things) among other business leaders locally as well as nationally during that time periodduring a time when banking was still seen as an important part of economic development in North Texas... During World War II, Hewitt served as Headquarters for Ninth Army Air Forces stationed nearby at Love Field north-central TX where aircraft were manufactured before being delivered back south for use against Japan...after World War II ended Lew Pittman took over ownership/management at First National Bank until his retirement in 1957 followed by his son Rick Pittman until Rick's retirement less than three years later which left office space available for Community Banks Unlimited (CBU) - now called BB&T Corporation - which opened its doors less than one year later on November 2nd 1959 constituting what would be known as "The Birthplace Of BB&T" today! With that milestone event marking what we now consider our foundation date within our community comes much speculation about just how long it will take us see our own growth spurt given all those positive precedence setterbacks!

However, recent development has revived the economy of Hewitt with businesses such as Montgomery Ward and Old Navy located there.
