Hereford is a town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Hereford is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1881 by James Ransom and his brother-in-law, Hiram Beasley. Hereford post office was established on March 15, 1881. James Ransom's only son, John A. Ransom (1875-1962), served as the first Postmaster from 1923 to 1927 and again from 1945 to 1948; both men were also settlers in the community. In 1905, Hereford annexed the neighboring village of White Sands in order to form a more centralized government for its citizens. In 1907 Hereford purchased 8 acres (3 ha) of land east of White Sands Creek from Waco businessman Hulbert Pemberton for $1 million dollars ($ million current value). The new town hall and other municipal buildings were built on this property at a cost of $8,500 per structure added to the original purchase price. The main road leading into and out of town crossed White Sands Creek just north of present day herefordsite before turning eastward and becoming Brazos Street; today's street name comes from this early incarnation of development: "Brazos Street Avenue." In 1915 Hereford defeated Waco in an election for mayor; future Ulysses S Grant Wood served as runner up that year. In 1924 Hereford annexed Midland Village which bordered it to the south and west; Midland Village had been founded two years earlier by two brothers named Clementson in response to concerns about what would happen if nearby Waco grew too large for Hereford's limited resources – Clementson managed to secure passage through state legislature legislation granting him incorporation status within minutes after submitting his application! During World War II there was much activity around here because many people worked on military sites such as weapons plants or ammunition depots located around Austin or San Antonio TX area while others worked in local businesses like grocery stores or tire stores

The university’s growth continued through the years with expansions until 1995 when it merged with Texas A&M University-Commerce to form Baylor A&M University. In 1865, Hereford was annexed by Austin County and began to decline as a commercial center. However, it regained some importance in the early 21st century due to its proximity to Austin and its role as a commuter town for the city.
