In 1916 landowner J G O'Brien donated 160 acres (64 ha) northwest of town limits for municipal use as well as $1 per capita tax levied on properties owning over $100 per annum until repeal in 1933 due to development pressures surrounding Amarillo.. On July 12th 1899 another major merger occurred when Big Creek Community Association formed from parts of Roaring Fork and Tooele Village with a population of ninety-eight people including thirteen women; this group operated a school and collected firewood for local homes until 1906 when big creek closed its doors following annexation by Amarillo Township
