Since World War II heretofore notables such as Clarence King (founder/presidential elector for Ulysses S Grant) have come from or have resided in here; he lived here from 1865-1868 before moving eastward into Arkansas where he founded what would become Monsanto Company headquarters; prior thereto King had been living near Lubbock (now Midland), TX where he joined cattle ranchers (Fowler). Other notable natives include former United States Representative Lloyd Doggett who served from 1979-1991; his daughter Linda remains active politically today serving on both local boards including one chaired by her father Randolph Knechtman Jr.;[1] Pernell Whitley who served as mayor pro tempore of Dallas –2004-2006[2];[3] three future gubernatorial candidates all current Dallas county commissioners: Sid Miller,[4],[5],[6], Ken Blackwell,[7],[8] among many others! It experienced rapid growth during World War I and World War II as both industries sections of Hudspeth County produced war materiel for the allied forces. However, after the war ended, Hereford struggled to stay afloat economically until finally becoming an unincorporated village in 1966 following an act by then-Hudspeth County Judge Emmet O'Neill that designated all villages within Hudspeth County as civic areas subject to countywide planning and regulation under one set of rules rather than individual village laws. Today's economy is based primarily on agriculture but some light manufacturing activity takes place as well; these include clothing companies such as Sears Roebuck and JCPenney who operate out of nearby Lubbock Airport which has made it a popular tourist destination for locals and visitors alike since its construction in 1978 In recent years here has been discussion about annexing portions of Lubbock into Hereford so that this would be closer to metropolitan HQ . This annexation has been met with strong opposition from many residents who feel their close proximity to downtown Lubbock makes it too difficult to maintain their lifestyle without more comprehensive services including job opportunities outside of their home
