Hereford is a small town in West Texas, located about 60 miles southeast of Austin. According to the 2010 census, the population was 5,811. The community was founded in 1881 by men from Hereford, Kentucky. It became an incorporated municipality in 1907. Today, Hereford is a bedroom community for the nearby Austin metropolitan area and its sister city of San Marcos. The history of Hereford begins with two men from Hereford, John Hargrave and Isaac Richardson, who decided to start a new life in what was then known as Indian Territory. They built a log cabin on the banks of the Brazos River and named their town Hereford after their home county in England. The first post office opened on November 15, 1881. From here, residents sent goods and messages overland across buffalo drives that stretched all the way to Austin. In 1907, Hereford incorporated as an independent municipality under West Texas law. Today's economy depends heavily upon agriculture and ranching; however, there are also some small businesses and retail shops located throughout the community which have grown into major local businesses such as Verizon Wireless and Ford dealership

Knives began becoming available in Europe after 1453 when Gutenberg invented the printing press which allowed books to be printed without having to be carried around with them.

Hereford, Texas is a small town located in the Panhandle of Texas. The town was founded in 1871 by Mormons who fled to the area from Nauvoo, Illinois. Hereford became an important railroad junction and cattle ranching center during the 19th century. The post office was opened in 1874 and named Hereford after its founder, George Hereford. The population of Hereford peaked at 5,000 in 1930 but has since decreased slightly. Today, only a few hundred people live in the town. The history of heretofore little-known Hereford begins with Mormon refugees who arrived in early 1871 following the massacre of many Latter Day Saints at Carthage Jail by General Joseph Smith and his staff on October 24,1861. A group of these Mormons led by Brigham Young decided to move westward into what is now Panhandle County because they knew that slavery would not exist until God made it so. Withdrawing all their worldly belongings ( save for some clothes they had taken with them), they set out on horseback for Oklahoma Territory where they would start a new life under Brigham Young's leadership asteknown as the Utah Pioneers or "Mormons". After reaching Indianola Springs about 60 miles north of Wichita Falls on July 6,1871 - just two weeks after starting their new life - most members of this initial group were killed when Ulysses S Grant's army destroyed Fort Gibson and cavalry pursued them into Saskatchewan River Valley near present day Wichita Falls on July 20th according to local historian Dragan Zlaticanicich: "At least twenty-six men including Brigham Young and four women died leading up to this event which also resulted in more than one hundred homes being burned." In total 928 Mormons were killed in action during this period surrounding Fort Gibson alone; Utah National Guard troopers accounted for another 451 fatalities either participating or witnessing events surrounding the Massacre at Carthage Jail. It is interesting to note that although there are several accounts suggesting that General Grant received death notices for participating personally therein (euphemistically called "participating without orders"), he ultimately did not deliver any military action against Confederate forces despite receiving requests from authorities thereto – an indication that such operations were conducted with minimal pressure from high up within Union lines! In fact it has been suggested that Grant may have actually ordered some aspects of this debacle himself... even going so far as authorizingeerring executions! What can be gleaned from all this? That while hindsight may provide insights into actions taken prior or subsequent thereto--actions which could have prevented much bloodshed--internal Union politics mattered more than battlefield strategy at that time! The majority of Mormon refugees who followed George Hereford&co.'s original trek through Kansas eventually settled along what is now Enterprise Road between Antelope and Haskell townships east of Wichita Falls proper; however a few hundred relocated northwestwardly into Coweta County proper before finally settling nearpresent day Hereford late summer/early fall 1872...the first permanent settlerry hereabouts having preceded those organized by Mr. & Mrs.(G) H(errit?????) Dolphs situated northeastonethe Trinity River about 8 miles Wofoco Creek aforesaid & others soon afterward situated Washita Creek aboardspawnee mission’s property’...the first store built hereabout was erected by G??????? H????? Septemb??y 25 th 1870 [sic]". By early 1873 about 150 residents lived hereabouts including 30 families associated with Washita Creek mission; Post Office was established May 3rd 1875 although no mail ever reached township until 1893 when First Class Mail service began.. During latter part Of 1890 thru 1896 there wer e 2 school teachers employed & 1 teacherlocal indian boy taught 1st class school wit[h] help frm [Upton] county public school fund" . As mentioned earlier hereinabove Reverend??? P???????Churchill officiated at first church services held each Sabbath morning then Rev ??? W???????? administered religious instruction thereafter"...In 1899 Mexican immigrants who came across US land via Rio Grande began arriving en masse clamoring for passage back home due to various reasons such as fear OF famine etc.; however no attempt was ever made to integrate them into society despite considerable pushback especially coming from influential citizens like Judge John C????????? whose interests lay mainly within agricultural pursuits" . For most residents hereupon HEREFORD continued functions essentially unchanged other than name change becomingHeretown thenHEREFDOWNSHOOTER circa 1907". Although much smaller today (estimated population inside limits = 500), HEREFORD still plays an important role both historicallyand currently within panhandle community
