In Hereford, Texas, there are several small businesses that still make and sell gun sights. The first gun sight in the town was opened in 1868 by a young man named John H. Cline. Cline chose to open his business on a property that he already owned, and he continued to operate it until 1978. At that time, the business was sold to an old gentleman named Solicitor General Barnes who ran it for over thirty years. In 1998, Barnes passed away and his son took over the business. At present, the family runs it as a combination store/gun range with two separate buildings on both sides of Main Street. The origins of gun sights can be traced back to at least 1868 when John H. Cline opened his first Sight in Hereford which consisted of a simple iron crosshair with four dots above it (the present day red target crosshair). This early type of gun sight was originally used for shooting practice only and could not be used for real ammunition due to its design limitations! A few years later, in 1870, another young man named Amos Bates began selling what became known as “Bates” Gun Sights which utilized a black-painted wooden frame with a circular red dot above it (a reference to the then current site of Hereford) These gunsights were very successful and soon spread throughout the area! By 1880 or so, most all businesses in here had their own Version 2 Gunsights model utilizing either an iron or brass frame with either three circles or five circles surrounding the red dot (still using today’s style red target crosshair). Around this time too, some enterprising businessmen started manufacturing their own versions of these types of sights! One such company was called Brown & Sharpe who producedight models from 1881-1892 based off an earlier version designed by Amos Bates himself! These gunsights featured brass frames and either three circles around the red dot or five circles surrounding it (!); they also came equipped with adjustable turrets which allowed you to adjust how close your shot should be focused upon your desired target! Around this same time period also saw some other companies begin producing additional features specific to certain rifles such as those made by Eberhart & Sons which produced Harris Bullseye sights between 1889-1890; these features included adjustments for windage and elevation (similar in concept to today’s Weaver muzzle brakes), plus also having correct color sighting lines marked onto each lens!!! It is interesting to note that many different rifle manufacturers participated in this era including Winchester (manufacturer mostly noted for their lever action rifles), Remington Arms Company (makers of shotguns primarily), Colt Firearms Corporation(makers of pistols) etc.; all vying for market share within their respective industries!!! By 1909 however things had started getting complicated sinceserial numbers were no longer being issued exclusively by individual firearm manufacturers but rather through government agencies like Bureau Of Alcohol Tobacco And Firearms!!! This led eventuallyto various knockoffs being manufactured without any recognized markings being placed on them!!! Needless To say, things got pretty heated during this era when people began expecting overly fancy looking gunsIGHTS products from seemingly mundane firearms manufacturers!!!! Numerous changes occurred during World War I however none more important than alterations made TO THE GUNSIGHT STANDARDS itself!! Shortly after America entered war against Germany there quickly emerged new standards governing just how good our new military rifles had become!! Called The American Rifle Association Standardization Committee Report #1(dated December 1st 1915), THIS document defines everything we know about true Aiming Devices now employed on modern battlefield handguns!!!!!!!!!!!!! Basically Said: THAT HOLY CRAP WAS GOOD ENOUGH BUT NOW THEY USEDJECTIVE MEASUREMENTS FOR TRIANGULAR RADIUS GREEN LIGHTS ON GUNSIGHTS !!!!!!! Consequently ALL OF OUR PREVIOUS DATING GUNSIGHTS WERE BURNED UP SO WE COULD ADDITIONALLY DESTROY ALL OF THEIR PARTS AND START OVER FROM scratch WITH NEW GUNSIGHT STANDARDS!!!!! Finally We achieved Our Ideal Range Of Precision Shooting!!!!!!! But alas That Was Just The Beginning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! INSTEAD OF PROVIDING US WITH SPECIFIC ADJUSTMENTS FOR ACCURATE SHOOTING THROUGHOUT MUCH MORE THAN JUST RANGE OF PROFILING WINDAGE AND ERECTIONAL ANGLE WE NOW USE THE FACTOR 2 REASONABLE ADJUSTMENTS WHICH ALSO ESTABLISH A CENTEROf PLACE FOR YOUR FIRM HEAD VENTURE INTO TARGET WHEN YOU ARE ABOUT TO FIRE!!!!!!!!!
