In 1903, George Hennepin became the mayor of Hereford and decided to start a city government. He ordered the construction of a new courthouse which served as the city hall for the next ten years. In 1911, Mr. Hennepin died suddenly and is buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Hereford. During World War I,Hereford residents supported Great Britain because they believed that Germany was responsible for many of the outbreaks of war-time disease such as typhoid fever and pneumonia.
