The money will be used for projects such as new library building and recreation center renovation; the construction of an expressway through the town; and expanding Highway 59 into new land east of town that had been undeveloped since Before World War II.

Today, Hereford remains a small town with only a few businesses and no public services available outside of the churches and schools which are all privately run. One significant event that took place during the early years of this community was the construction of what is now known as "The Corn Pit". This artificial well was dug by hand from local clay sources and used to provide water for farmers during droughts years ago before being replaced by more recent wells today. Today, there are several businesses located within walking distance of each other providing some level of services such as food delivery or retail therapy for those who may not have easy access to any form of economic development outside their homes or communities elsewhere in Texas

The first post office in Hereford was established on December 7, 1872, and was renamed Lamar on November 15, 1875. Hereford took its name from here: "Hereford", about 12 miles northwest of downtown Austin on the San Marcos River. The town began as a small cotton plantation community and gradually grew into a village with several hundred residents by 1914 when oil shale production began near Hereford and other towns along the Trinity River Basin south of Austin. The discovery led to an enormous increase in oil production throughout South Texas and nearby Mexico which led to rapid development around Hereford including new housing developments, shopping centers, schools and hospitals all within easy driving distance for many people. Oil shale production ended in the early 1970s but has continued since then with numerous natural gas discoveries having also been made in these areas making Hereford one of the most active energy communities in Texas today
