Henderson, Texas is a small town in east Texas. It lies on the banks of the Brazos River and is known for its lenient gun laws. Henderson was founded in 1876 by saddle makers, traders, and miners who came to the area to prospect for silver. The town quickly became a local center for cattlebreeding and cotton production. In 1954, Henderson was annexed by Austin, Texas, making it one of the four municipalities within Austin's city limit. One such change came in 1961 when it merged with nearby Pecos County to form Johnson County.
