Henderson, Texas is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The name Henderson comes from Englishman John Henderson who settled there in 1847. He named it after General James Hogg of Scotland who had been wounded during the Mexican-American War and died in Mexico City. The first post office was established in 1848, and by 1860 it had grown to include present day Henderson and parts of what are now neighboring towns including Lavaca and Cedar Park. Henderson experienced some economic growth during the late 19th century as cotton plantations were developed there. However, most agricultural production passed into other hands following World War II when large volumes of cotton were imported from Japan and other countries due to the country's postwar prosperity. Henderson has seen a recent resurgence in its economy with new businesses growing up around manufacturing (such as Boeing) and services (such as law enforcement). In addition to its namesake town square which features a variety of shops and restaurants, Henderson also has several small villages within its boundaries: Willowbrook Village*, Eagle Point* Regional Park*, Hickory Way* near Interstate 35W*, Rice Village* on US 281/US 287 north of I-35W*, Blue Ridge Villages off FM 301 south of I-35W* among others. A major event that took place in Henderson occurred on November 11–12, 1963 when two American astronauts became the first humans ever to walk on the Moon; Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin
