Henderson is a city in Waller County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,569 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Waller County. Henderson is located in the valley of the Pecos River and its ZIP code is 77536. The first settlers to Henderson were Levi Coffin and his family who arrived in 1845 from Missouri. They erected a log cabin on the banks of the Pecos River, near present day Henderson High School. In 1865, James Ahern settled down about two miles west of current day Henderson on land that he had purchased from David Hogg for $200 dollars. In 1870, John Dickson moved to Henderson from Palestine, Texas with his family and began trading goods with local farmers and Indians. He later became one of the largest landowners in Waller County. Jesse Frazee also settled down about two miles east of present day Henderson in 1872-1873 after arriving on horseback from Fort Worth, Texas with his brother William Frazee and their families. In 1907 an act was passed by Congress which designated Waller County as a German Settlement Area pursuant to Section 301(a) of Public Law 80-433 (48 Stat 5359). This made it possible for American Germans living in other U S states to come live near Austin without having to leave their homes or businesses behind.. The first post office called "Heiskirchen" was established at some point between 1892-1893 but no records exist documenting its existence until 1903 when it changed its name to "Henderson". The community grew rapidly due to German immigrants who found work farming or working as grocery store clerks and teachers during World War I and II while they still could receive government benefits like food stamps which helped them through difficult times financially. In 1948, when Haskell County merged into Waller County, Henderson became part of the newly formed municipality which included most all of what are nowWaller Counties except Haskell County within its boundaries making it one small town surrounded by many larger towns throughout southern Texans

When Texans seceded from Mexico in 1861, they set up their own government in Austin and also created a new county called Williamson County. Henderson was part of Austin County until it was merged into Johnson County on December 15th, 1907. On January 1st 1912, Henderson became a municipality with its own government and water supply system- making it one of the first municipalities to do so in Texas. The city has seen some growth over the years as it has become an important center for commerce and culture within this small country town. Many famous people were born or raised here including Lyndon B Johnson (the 44th President of the United States), Willie Nelson (the singer/songwriter who won two Grammy Awards), Texan musician George Jones (the father of bluegrass music), actor Clint Eastwood (the director who made spaghetti westerns) and author J D Salinger.(1). Today there are many businesses that operate within the boundaries of Henderson which include restaurants such as Longhorn Steakhouse & Buffet; gas stations including ChevronTexaco; convenience stores such as KFC; movie theaters like Regal Cinemas; health clubs like Gold's Gym; as well as several schools including Stroud Middle School(2). Henderson is also home to numerous parks that offer various activities such as baseball games, hiking trails and fishing tournaments.(3)
Henderson, Texas was first settled in 1836 by the Mexican government and was part of the Tejas Indian territory. The town was named for General David Henderson, a Confederate officer who fought in the Texan Revolution. The town grew rapidly due to its natural resources and became an important trading center in the area. In 1860, Henderson was annexed by Dallas County and renamed as that county's capital. In 1914, Henderson lost its status as county capital when Dallas County merged with Kaufman County to formDallas-Kaufman County.
