The company has been based in Harlingen since 1903 and today employs over 350 people across three locations – one in downtown Harlingen; one on Commerce Street near I-35; and another located on FM 1960 just east of Bandera Road. The company also contains several thousand square feet of manufacturing space which it plans to use to increase production capacity by 50 percent over the next five years. In 1848, General Sam Houston purchased land within present-day Harlingen and built a fortification for his troops near what is now downtown. The town began to grow rapidly during this time and by 1860, there were over 1,000 people living in Harlingen. In 1865, soldiers under General John Buford attacked Mexican forces stationed at Fort Worth and destroyed much of that fortress before driving the Mexicans out of the area. This event helped start the Great American War which lasted until 1865 and resulted in Mexico gaining independence from Spain. As a result of this war, many Texans decided to move westward into new lands which included parts of today’s San Antonio County including Harlingen. The town continued to grow as a result of its location near military installations and railroads which made it an important center for commerce during this time period. By 1870, Harlingen had become home to over 2,500 people and by 1880, it had reached 4 thousand residents. At this point in time, local businesses became known as “the seven sisters” because they shared common interests such as shipping goods between various ports on the Gulf Coast or operating coal mines nearby. During World War I (1914-18), many citizens Joined United States Military Forces serving beside their country abroad while others volunteered for local police duty or served on ambulance units called “ ambulances with Red Cross Society” These volunteers later founded the city hall/fire department Volunteer Battalion #2 which still exists today providing emergency response services for civilians within our community During World War II (1939-1945), many citizens enlisted in local military forces along with other towns and cities across America due to concerns about potential Nazi aggression should Germany become successful throughout Europe . Many members of these groups formed patriotic societies such as American Legion or Veterans thereof which continue to exist today
