In 1865, General Zachary Taylor founded Fort Worth to protect settlers moving westward from Texas City. The fort was manned by Mexican soldiers until it was surrendered to American forces on January 9, 1865. In 1867, Fort Worth became an international center for trade as traders traveled between Dallas and Mexico City. This period is also known as the Stock Market Era because of the heavy investment in new technologies during this time. On July 24, 1870, Mora County was created from parts of Hidalgo and San Patricio counties following a vote by its residents. The county seat was moved from Mckinney to Harlingen due to population growth in that area at that time. On November 1st, 1903, Harlingen incorporated as a city under Chapter 175 of the Texas Legislature with a population of 3,500 people. The oil fields discovered in 1901 led to rapid development in Harlingen during World War I and World War II; however, much progress has been made since then without any major oil spills or earthquakes happening within town limits! Today there are over 30 businesses located inside and around downtown Harlingen providing services such as construction materials (e.g., asphalt), software development (e.g., Salesforce), health care (e.g., OB/GYN & family clinics), retail (e.g., hardware stores & restaurants), etc.—making it one OF THE LARGEST CITY WATERSHIP IN TEXAS! Harlingen is home to many different cultures including German-Americans who have lived here for generations; Spanish-speaking immigrants who have come here since before Prohibition ended; Japanese-American veterans who fought WWII; African American families who live here today; as well as many other cultures that make upTexas’s diverse community rich culture scene!

As new families arrived in Harlingen, they began to develop businesses in agriculture or other industries. By 1800, there were several churches in town with services provided by ministers from nearby San Antonio. In 1876, a post office was established at Harlingen with mail sent from San Antonio and Austin. The town's growth continued through World War II as war demand for materials increased; however, population growth slowed after the war ended. In recent years, however, Harlingen has seen resurgence due to its location within easy reach of major metropolitan areas such as Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston-Houston Bayou. Many residents have moved to the community because of its amenities - including ample shopping opportunities and easy access to Interstate 10 - as well as its proximity to education institutions such as Baylor University and Rice University that provide opportunities for economic development.
The city of Harlingen was founded in 1879 by John W. Harper and his wife, Emma. The town quickly became a center for cotton production and trade, and the population rapidly grew. In 1912, the city annexed the neighboring town of Pecos to increase its population size. The city has since grown to include a total of over 100 buildings, many of which are located on the downtown square. The Harlingen Museum of History is one of the largest museums in Texas, with an extensive collection of historical artifacts from throughout the area.
