The Harker Heights area was originally settled by Germans in the 1840s and 1850s. In 1881, James A. Harker founded what is now known as Harker Heights School District #1. The school district became one of the first to provide free public education in Tarrant County. The school district has since grown to include more than twenty-five schools, including four high schools and three middle schools. Today,Harker Heights is home to many businesses and residents that are involved in various aspects of local life. These businesses include several grocery stores, banks, restaurants, retail therapy centers and more. Many residents have also chosen to move away from their hometown for opportunities that are available outside of Tarrant County - some moving to Dallas/Fort Worth and others moving to Austin or Houston. The community has a rich history that can be found on both the local level and statewide levels. For example, during World War I there were numerous battles fought within the boundaries of Harker Heights; these battles helped shape not only the course of history but also who lived within its borders today. Additionally, throughout much of recent history there was significant social activity taking place within the confines of Harker Heights - this included such things as dances and ballgames being held at local homes on Saturday nights before heading out into town for dinner with friends on Sunday morning (which is still an event popular among locals).

Harker Heights is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas, located on the border of Medina and Hidalgo counties. The population was 8,889 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The town started as a little settlement called Harker Heights on December 17, 1874, by Major General John Fetterman and Colonel James Kenedy, both members of the 1st Cavalry Regiment of Texas Rangers. They were looking for land to purchase near Fort Worth to make up for their previous failure to find any good land around that city during the territorial period. The first store in Harker Heights was opened by Jno. Aitken and his wife Eliza Aitken in 1875. Mr. Herndon opened a grocery store in 1876 which became known as "Herndon's". The first school was built in 1877 by Rufus Ladd and Mrs. Sarah Aitcheson but it burned down several years later due to neglect from its owners. In 1880, pioneers Isaac Pogue (a whitesmith) and William Witherspoon founded what would become Harker Heights Golf Course which still exists today as one of the most well-known courses in Dallas/Fort Worth area along with many other golf courses throughout North Texas including some owned by local businesses also! In 1886, Harker Heights had two churches - First Baptist Church & Second Methodist Church - both built with donations from individuals or families living nearby who were Methodists or Baptists then converting to Christianity after coming across these great Churches while driving through these areas! In 1900 there were only 10 residents living here; however within 5 years there over 100 people had come! This growth can be attributed to various reasons such as factors such as agricultural depression brought about by drought conditions during that time; increased trade betweenDallas/Ft Worth and Mexico City; immigration from eastern Europe due to railroad construction across TX & Mexican borders; oil discoveries offshore & ensuing boom times for TX industry during those days...the list goes on! Charlie Barnhart came into town circa 1912 after spending time working at Texaco refinery out east & bought an old home east of town that he turned into his own subdivisions complex known as "Barnhart's" until his death in 1984!! All these things contributed greatly towardserving this small community thru thick & thin!!! Today we enjoy all our events taking place here like our Annual Homecoming Parade on 4th Of July each year!!!!!
Harker Heights was founded in 1881 as a small farming community on the edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. It became an important center for cotton production and ironworking during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The city developed around Harker Heights, but it has since lost much of its original population and infrastructure.
