The original downtown core of Haltom City retains some significant historic buildings from its early days such as the Baylor University Hospital (now called Baylor Health Medical Center) and Texas Instruments building which were both built between 1907 and 1909 by Atchison Rubber Company president James J. Whitney III on land donated by then-Governor Perry Austin in memory of his late father Austin's assassinated predecessor Sam Houston II years earlier while Houston was governor of Texas; this building also housed what is now Fort Worth's only movie theater at that time - Regal Theatre (later AMC).
